Finances
Can someone explain to me my finances? The date on this is 10-25 and I have just traded Santana who is making 21 million per year that is not processed yet. The league is saying that I am broke (-8 million) and that I cant draft. I say that I have 15 million in cash that is reflected in the page below. Anyone's help is welcomed and please list your credentials if you decide to comment.

Add up your Gate, Media, Merch and Cash and you get a bit more than $110M. Subtract your player expenses and there is your negative $8M. As the Santana trade happens, you're still on the hook for everything you paid him before October 25th, which is going to be the majority (if not completely all) of his $21M. Looking at the link you provide, he is still sitting on your roster. So... negative cash flow.
Credentials? Seriously? Anyways, how is playing OOTP almost daily for seven straight years, commishing three online leagues over that span and playing in several more? |
Ok...The Santana Trade has happened and my -cash flow increased...what happened? Shouldn't I have had some cash? Link provided.

Alright. Baseball salaries aren't paid out at just the end of the season, but over the course of the entire season. Since the trade of Santana happened at the end, you had pretty much paid him his entire salary. As that put you in the red, in the red you stayed for the end of that fiscal year. End of Santana deal having anything to do with your finances.
Now you're in a new year. Media Revenue is paid out instantly, so there is your near $24M. Since you were $8.3M in the red last year, that is deducted, leaving you at the $15.5M in cash. With all of your current contracts, you are still $55k over budget, but you do have the $15.5M in cash. By the end of the year, if everyone's salary stays the same and you don't add or subtract anyone, you'll have just shy of $15.5M sitting in your bank still. You have the cash, just not the budget room. |
The trade of Santana happened on 1-6, not at the end of the season. I am still at -8 million and it is Free agency. I had -8 million BEFORE the Santana Trade. After he processed it, it was still at -8 million and the budget went down. The Bottom line is that I should have about 15 million dollars cash, Right?
|
I was thinking it happened in October. Anyways, you should and do have $15M cash. See the part that says Balance - $15,550,825? That's your cash. You just don't have any budget room.
|
Ok...this will clear it up. That 15 million you see was the same balance that was there before the Santana Trade. The only thing different was the projected balance had 21 million dollars more. My argument is that the -8 million should be gone. The middle culumb has not changed before or after the trade.

Okay, timeline from how I figure it...
1) The 2009 seasons ends with Santana on the books and you at -$8M. 2) The 2010 season begins with Santana on the books and you at $15.5M. 3) You trade Santana. 4) Because you've traded Santana, you argue the -$8M should be gone, correct? That can't happen, since that salary was factored into last year's financials. You are in a new year, and since you started that year in the red, you are now only $15.5M instead of nearly $24M in the black. Or in the green, as OOTP puts it. |
I wonder why when I made the same trade in my file, I recieved cash back?
|
Hey guys, thanks for all the useful info here.
My quesiton is, what is the "current budget"? What does that mean exactly? Also, where do they come up with the figure for "$ left for contract extensions"? Thanks |

So when your player payroll is higher than your current budget, does that mean the owner is expecting you to trim the expenses through trades, waivers, etc..? If you set your own budget are there limits or can you spend into oblivion?

To answer your question, I made the trade on 1-6. Before the trade I had a -8-million dollars with Santana on my roster. After the trade (no cash involved), the -cash was gone and I had 15 million dollars to spend on FA. I need an explination for this. It seems like the owner pays the salary in advance. |

ok...thanks a lot for your help...

I should add that this stuff is covered in decent detail in the online manual.
I think part of i_davis' problem is that he is playing in a league where only the commish has the league file, so all i_davis can see is his team financial report which only shows a fraction of the info in the Front Office page.... |
What do you guys think about a league that will not give a GM the file? Would you play in it?
|
What do you think of a league that will not give up the File? would you play in it?
|
How do you export without the file? Or do you merely send in what changes you want done based off viewing the HTML reports?
If the latter, I wouldn't bother. What is the point if you don't even have to open up OOTP to play? |
Yeah, true and if the commish makes a mistake with the line up, you are not suppose to get mad. I play in a league called TBBL and they have ran this league like this for 5-years, starting from OOTP 6. He says it was so people could play who could not afford the game. you post your changes on the board and he imputs them. Mean while you can only use a few features of the game and you better not ask for the file.
I have been here so long and the GM's are good, but my feeling is how can you call yourself a great GM when you are the only one with the file? How do I know you are not cheating? Everyone please comment. What should I do and why? TBBL |

Thanks...I think this guy is cheating anyway. He calls hiself a great GM when he is the only one with the file. He is too dominant and he gets mad if you ask for the file.
|
Just a warning...ignore any requests to join the TBBL league. They do not allow you to have the file, and even woorse, you cant use all the features of the game because he thinks that it takes too much time to imput them.
Stay away from this league! |
