there were many structural changes made when ootp added the minor leagues that make the db incompatible with newer versions of ootp.

OK...how do you suggest importing Negro League players? Is there a workaround that can be "easier" than importing 1 by 1?

The negro leagues are included already. Just turn off the color barrier and they will automagically appear

Dusty Baker should be listed as African, not Caucasian.

Players missing in Historical Exhibition
Hello, I recently setup a Historical Exhibition with the 1950 Phillies and 1954 Braves. I used end of season rosters with a limit of 45. Curt Simmons was not imported. He was 17-8 with 215 innings pitched. I have had 2 more separate errors like this with different players and years in the early 1900's. I cannot remember who they were but I know one player was a pitcher with at least 20 games and at least 100 inning's who was not traded and another was a batter who had at least 200 PA and was not traded. Any idea of how to make these players appear in the roster, especially Curt Simmons on the 1950 Phillies?
Thank you Karl |

According to baseball-reference, at least, Thomas Mitchell (Tom) Herr and Howard Bruce (Bruce) Sutter were born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA, but I think the games' databases list them as being from Lancaster, California. I don't know how many other players are identified as being from certain states they're not actually from, when the city names are exactly the same, either. But I know the two above players, at least, are listed in the database as being from the wrong Lancaster in the USA.
Tom Herr's BB-Ref page: https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...herrto01.shtml Bruce Sutter's BB-Ref page: https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...uttebr01.shtml You also have Reinder Albertus (Rynie) Wolters listed as being an American, when actually he was from the Netherlands, not the USA. Here is his BB-Ref page: https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...oltery01.shtml . In his time, his birthplace was Nieuweschans, but in your games' databases, the closest current city/town/whatever that you have listed at present for the Netherlands is probably Reiderland, in the Dutch province/state/whatever of Groningen. Just some errors you may want to correct in your database later on. There are probably other players that need their hometowns/birth locations updated as well. Thank you for your time and attention. CD out. |
Marty Marion was born in Richburg, South Carolina, according to his BB-Ref page. The database seems to have him without a hometown, at present.
His BB-Ref page is here: https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...arioma01.shtml If I find any other players that may need adjusting, I'll let you know. CD out. |
all the above are in the database correctly. the world.dat file is crap however and does not seem fixable easily. we have asked that historicals be removed from using this stupid file and that the game simply display birthplaces as entered in the database.
|
What do you mean by that? I'm not quite understanding you perfectly here, Spritze, I think. Please clarify. Thank you. CD out.
|
the world.dat file is FUBAR as well as useless and is the cause of the errors you report
it is not fixable by the historical team and really only works with the standard game as only current cities and towns are contained therein it needs to go away and take a time out in the corner. |
Dock Ellis and Donnie Moore should also be listed as African instead of Caucasian.
Interestingly, with the exception of Al Cowens, all of the affected players so far have had first names starting with "D". Thanks for all your efforts, Spritze. |

EDIT: This is a good thing because this is an awesome database, which allows us to bring in players that wouldn't be able to appear in our games without it. |
