OOTP 13 Online Manual Thread

Hi folks,

I hope you find this year's manual helpful. It's not quite where I'd like it to be on OOTP's "Opening Day," but I will continue to update it regularly over the coming months. In particular, the customization stuff isn't done. (Generally, the "higher up" the manual hierarchy you are, the more "done" it is. I'm making my way through end-to-end!) If you visit the manual site online, you will always get the most up-to-date content. However, by default the in-game help system only checks for content that is > 7 days old. If you tend to use the help in-game, and don't mind OOTP connecting to the Internet regularly, you might want to do this:
  1. Open OOTP
  2. Go to Preferences
  3. Go to the Expert Settings tab
  4. Under "Online Features," select the option called "Use on-line features & content (always download)

This will cause OOTP to check for new content every time you hit F1 on a page, ensuring you are always getting the most up-to-date content.

Feel free to post here if you see mistakes or would like me to add things.

I'm probably the one person who wants Markus to STOP CHANGING THINGS!! :D

Yes, we like Markus to change things. Sucks to be you. :)

Great, I'm sure this will be of good help to a baseball AND ootp noob like me :)

when I saw this post title I was all excited...I just knew there would be a link in there to where i could poke around the new manual to eat up these last few hours.

I looks like I get to wait a bit though.

Still thanks for the hard work! :) I know manuals are far from fun to write up, and I kind of missed having one last year...though i still poke around the ootp11 manual from time to time.

It's in the first post now, too. :)

Hi battists,

Not sure if this is supposed to go to the bug thread or here, so please advice.

I have found a couple of places in game where pressing F1 gives an empty document page with an error like this one:

Cheers

Make sure your online help files are up to date (instructions in the first post). I'll put a bug in Andreas' ear about the problem. Thanks for reporting it!

EagleMountain 04-07-2012 02:04 AM

Thanks RandyTiger,

I need all the help I can get, so I did as Steve wrote regarding always updating as the first thing yesterday :)

/Mark

Great!

Keep in mind that the manual is still a work-in-progress, and we're trying to complete it as fast as we can. Unfortunately, that's going to lead to some problems like you experienced, but we'll get everything fixed as quick as we can.

Thank you again for your help - every little bit of help counts, and we need all the eyeballs we can get! :)

Mark,

Be sure to let us know which pages you F1ed on that came up blank! We'll sort that out.

Sure thing, where do you want me to report them? In this thread or ?

From the guide:
Quote:

To install the game on Linux, follow these steps
  1. Download the game. After this step is completed, you should have a file called ootp13linuxsetup.bin saved somewhere on your computer. (We suggest you place this file in the temp directory under your user's home directory.)

In the link I was sent by Andreas, the file is called OOTP 13 Installer.

Hi guys,

Took the MANAGER MENU and found the following missing:

Basics
Manager Home Screen -> Manager Options

Your Job
XXXX Home Screen -> Home
XXXX Home Screen -> Front Office -> Graphs
XXXX Home Screen -> Front Office -> Player Development

Info and tools
Player Search & Shortlist -> Player Comparison
Staff & Shortlist -> Staff Shortlist

Next up GAME MENU ;)

EagleMountain 04-08-2012 04:49 AM

The GAME menu:

Current Game:
League Associations -> Association Setup & Options

Advanced:
Setup & Options -> League Setup -> Functions
Setup & Options -> League Setup -> Financials
Setup & Options -> League Setup -> Historical
Restore Game -> "Gives the backup game help page"

battists 04-08-2012 01:23 PM

This is very helpful, thanks! Wish I'd had time to do this before release! We'll get these fixed for the second patch. (Too late already for first patch.)

Let me know if you find any more!

battists 04-08-2012 01:44 PM

BTW, some of these I was able to fix already:

Manager Home Screen -> Manager Options
Team Home Screen -> Home
Setup & Options -> League Setup -> Functions
Player Search & Shortlist -> Player Comparison

The rest require code changes. I'm sure there are more out there.

EagleMountain 04-08-2012 04:53 PM

Great news, I will test some more tomorrow :)

On the first page of 'Creating Games' under the heading of 'Creating a major league game' it still says 'uses 2010 Opening Day rosters'
