Path to Glory: Toronto Maple Leafs

1 Attachment(s)
I've got my Desktop back up and running so i'll be taking a second round at my path to glory with the Toronto Maple Leafs (This time I will not be getting the crash due to deleting the dots!) I will keep my other NHL League Dynasty going when on my lap top, but this will be the main one now. I hope you enjoy.

The Introduction:
The Toronto Maple Leafs have had their rough years time and time again. They've been in "rebuild" mode 2005/2006 *Lockout Year* and since have only made the playoffs once out of the past 11 seasons.

2012/2013 was the year they made it, went into game 7 with a two goal lead against Boston, where they looked to be advancing, but Boston never giving up, scored 2 goals in less then 3 mins left in the 3rd to tie the game up and go into overtime. The overtime would last just 6:05 as Boston would score again and crush the Toronto Nationwide Fans.

Now in 2016/2017. The leafs have built to this point a young and talented roster for ages to come and look to be close to making a splash back into the Playoffs picture for years to come.

The Goals:
1. Rebuild Team at Owners Request.
My plans to rebuild will require the obvious, getting draft picks.
I will also be needed a more reliable contributor at the Right Wing position and Require a top 2-4 Defenceman to contribute to a below average 6/7 man rotation as is.

2. Eventually make playoffs.
Not expecting much the first two years. The rebuilds going to be much more pushed towards the future, rather than forcing a one time hit in the near future.

3. Backing up
Need someone we trust to back up Andersen when back to back games happen and/if Andersen's out for a long period of time due to injury.

The Key Players:
Auston Matthews
Our newly acquired Center will be the face of the rebuild, so building around him is a must.

Rielly, Andersen, Marner
These three are expected to be here for the long hall. They're almost untouchable when it comes to trade talks, but if the rare gem came up, which would need to be a lot, they'd consider it.

Nylander, Kadri, Gardiner, van Riemsdyk
These guys are expected to be around, but part of the rebuild, could be used to bait in the needs addressed above.

Enroth Not Likely Here
He's on the roster now, but expect him to move for something more reliable to come up.

2016 Offseason Moves:
The Leafs were quiet during the offseason, only making a move on October 2.2016 to shake up the news feeds as they found a trading partner with the St.Louis Blues.

The leafs acquired Defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk from the St.Louis Blue in exchange for James van Riemsdyk & a 3rd Pick in the 2017 draft pick (Acquired from ANA).

Shattenkirk brings the ability to play in all scenarios. He's had back to back seasons of 44 points.

James van Riemsdyk had a rough season last year due to injuries (Only played in 40 games), but had an average year two season ago collecting 56 points in 82 games. He will be a great addition to the St.Louis Blues if he can stay healthy.

Hey. I've been a fan of your work, and I was wondering something. In your previous Maple Leafs Dynasty, how did you get Gary Roberts as your head coach? I tried and couldn't find him anywhere

TBiz 01-18-2017 10:30 PM

Hey there sorry, I didn't mean to say that one was a path to glory.
I created them in the sandbox mode.

That was just a fantasy leaf dynasty I put together in sandbox mode.

Sorry again for that mix up, I am pretty sure I messed that up with miss wordind/thinking far ahead of myself.

Leafs Injury An Issue Early.
The Regular Seasons only 2 games in and we lost Milan Michalek Day to Day with Hamstring Spasms during our game with Ottawa (Which we lost 3-1), Tyler Bozak got injured during pre-season action and was listed 1-2 weeks with Neck Stiffness. He's now day to day.

The remaining injuries are from prior, Frederik Andersen is still listed 1-2 months away from returning to the line-up, Stephane Robidas is out indefinite, as is Nathan Horton, and last but not least on this list of fallen players is Joffrey Lupul whose listed 3-4 months before his return.

The Pick Up.
Attachment 486946
The leafs announced Oct.12.2016 the claiming of Left Defenceman, Brian Strait from the Winnipeg Jets.

Strait is known for his defensive play and is extremely durable/able to avoid big injuries. Though he isn't expected to produce much defencive scoring, he will be a great asset on the blueline for in front of our goalies. Expect him to be part of the third line on most often and second line in certain occasions.

Huge Trade:
Leafs continued the additions of the rebuild with another trade that would see the departing Nazem Kadri, Josh Leivo, rights to goalie Joseph Woll and a 4th Round Pick in the 2017 draft lottery going to the Los Angeles Kings.

In return the leafs will get young star Tyler Toffoli and tough guy Kyle Clifford who will suit up in the Leafs 6th game of the season against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The trade was announced official Oct.25.2016. Both teams seemed pleased with the movement.

First 15 Games | Outlook
Leafs have struggled down the stretch of the first 15. The only reliable goaltending it seems they have right now is Antoine Bibeau. Enroth has been pretty disappointing off the hop and Garret Sparks has proven he isn't ready to be in the NHL with his two games at the NHL level.

Mitch Marner seems to have found a streak of points as of late, as hes carrying a 6 Game Point Streak down the stretch.

Tyler Toffoli came to the Leafs with 4 goals in 5 games with LA, he's only produced a goal and two assists since arriving here in 10 games.

Kyle Clifford has been the unpredictable on scoring 3 goals since coming here.

Kevin Skattenkirk has been doing exactly what has been expected of him since being acquired from the St. Louis Blues.

Season | Outlook
The Leafs are in 7th in their division and 15th in their conference. Due to inconsistent goaltending, the Leafs are off to a rocky start.

Positive being they've acquired some key players with the rebuild going as planned, though Owner Larry Tanenbaum is disappointed in the performance of the team, he likes where things are going with the team.

Goaltending Situated?!
The Toronto Maples Leafs Goaltending at best can be summed up by "Terrible". Enroth wasn't even getting a chance back, Kaskisuo isn't ready for the NHL as proven in his 3 games at the NHL level and Antoine Bibeau had a good start, but has now fallen out of the loop.

The Leafs made the move needed now.

Jhonas Enroth, Rights to Yegor Korshkov and a 7th Round Pick will head to St. Louis.

The Leafs will get Goalie, Jake Allen in return which they hope is the last piece of solving the backup goalie/starting role for Andersen being out.

Jake Allen's Debut Promising:
Jake Allen was Acquired Nov.28.2016 and was thrown into the net for the Leafs away game the very next day against the Edmonton Oilers.

Jet Lag did not seem to phase the 26yr old as he came to compete as he stopped all 31 shots he faced and thanks to Kevin Shattenkirk's first period rocket goal, the Leafs would secure the win for their newly added Goaltender with a 1-0 win.

Lets hope this is things to come down the stretch.

Leafs continue to build, as it seems pushing for a playoff spot maybe nearing an end, as they've dropped their last two games as the 35 games mark.

The Leafs acquired Dougie Hamilton from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Tyler Bozak, 4th Pick in 2018 and Rights to Carl Grundstrom.

The move ensures the Leafs have two solid lines of defenceman with Rielly, Shattenkirk, Gardiner and now Hamilton at the point.

-----------------

The Leafs also have traded Peter Holland & 5th Rd Pick in 2017 to the Washington Capitals, in exchange for a 3rd Round Pick in 2018.

---------------------------------

Toronto has sold off some more in hopes of improving for next season.
The Leafs will part ways with Andrew Campbell and their 5th pick in the 2018 draft to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Mason Raymond and a 2nd round pick in this upcoming 2017 draft.

The Leafs are fed up with Andersen as he will be shipped off after going 4-9-0 in 15 appearances for the Toronto Maple Leafs. His GAA was his all time worse of 3.44 and his DV% is .885.
The Leafs also traded their 1st Round Pick in the 2018 Draft to the San Jose Sharks.

Attachment 486987
In exchange Leaf will get back Martin Jones and the Sharks 1st Round Pick in the 2017 Draft.

DEADLINE MOVES
Toronto has seen their season to far gone to catch up to a playoff spot, so March 1st seen some major moves.

Firstly Leafs trade Joffrey Lupul, 2 6 Round Draft Picks (2017,2018) and Rights to Tony Cameranesi headed to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Tyler Ennis.

The biggest trade came after Nashville's Ryan Johansen refused to resign with the Preds. So they shopped him around and the Leafs answered.

Ryan Johansen will head to the Leaf in exchange for William Nylander, rights to Jeremy Bracco and a 3rd Round pick in 2018.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been playing each game by game, finding ups and downs with the current roster.

The new owner; Robby Jacobs is finding that GM/Coach Terence Baker is having an an outstanding season in the eyes of the goals for the season. Currently the Leafs are 19-16-1 on the season and sit in 6th place in their conference (2pts ahead of 8th place). The problem is the owner feels the GM isn't doing much on that end. So ask and you shall receive.

Attachment 487204
The Leafs have acquired 23 Year Old, Right Wing; Christoph Bertschy from the Minnesota Wild. Christoph played 19 games this season with the Minnesota Wild and recorded 5G,1A, for 6PTS and was a plus 3.

Attachment 487205
The Leafs also went out, gave up quite a bit, but Tomas Hertl will be joining the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hertl has played 29 games this season for the Sharks and has 9G,17A for 26 points.

The Leafs were rumored to be looking for a #1 LW to jump in with the line of Auston Matthews & Nikita Kucherov (Currently Kyle Clifford has been there).

The Leafs gave up 23 Year Old, RD: Connor Carrick, rights to goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, originally the Sharks 2nd Rd Pick in 2018 and a 4th Rd Pick in 2019.

As the Trade Deadline Loomed on, the Toronto Maple Leafs opted not to make any major moved, but did claim a few bodies off the Waivers List!

Attachment 487294
Scott Wilson was claimed Feb.17th from the Winnipeg Jets

Wilsons known for his goal scoring ability, extreme resistance to injuries, known for his work ethic and has pretty good hockey smarts in reading the play. The only real downfall with Wilson is his Physical Play

Wilson spent most of his time down with the AHL with the Manitoba Moose. He played 56 games with them recording 22 goals and 22 assists for 44 points.

Attachment 487292
Veteran Tough Guy; Ryan Reaves was acquired off waivers also from the St. Louis Blues.

The words "sportsmanlike" will never be used when mentioning Reaves.
The strongest part of his game obviously is his physical play, durability from avoiding big injuries and isn't a guy to get pushed around.

He's also reported by coaches to have a "willing to learn" attitude. The only worst part about him really is his playmaking ability.

He played in 60 games with St.Louis recording 6 goals, 5 assists for 11 points, and has 175 penalty mins this season.

Attachment 487293
Jesse Graham was also acquired from St. Louis by waivers. The RD young prospect has done well at the AHL level the last two seasons.

He's played 52 games this season with the Chicago Wolves and has 6 goals and 34 assist for 40 points this season.

Graham isn't only a great asset in the prospects for the Leafs but brings, good Playmaking ability, is durable from big injuries, has above average stamina and his skating is pretty good.

The weakest part of his game is his Physical play.
