The Knowledge Thread

Hello all:-) Since I discovered OOTP last year I have learned so much about this simulation and about the game of Baseball in general from the very knowledgeable members of this community. I think it would be a good idea to try to get all of this knowledge about OOPT and Baseball into one thread.

This is why I am creating this thread. My goal is to have members share links, tips, or anything else that they think would be helpful to know about OOTP and Baseball in general. I will organize the information and edit this post to include it.

Examples: Helpful threads about OOTP, sites explaining Baseball strategy, recommended books about Baseball, fictional league idea, why certain statistics are important, etc.

Please Contribute Any Helpful Links or Information You Might Have

Thank you very much:-)

I created a sister page.

OOTP Community Wiki | The Knowledge Page

I need to sit down for a day or so and contemplate how best to start tying the wiki pages together, I have been so busy with the server and getting a base of pages & other examples that I have just kept putting it off, but it's reached a size now that I seriously need to make decisions ;) then we can have more useful portal type pages for various subjects to share rather than a bunch of individual ones. it's going to take a good 18-24 months to start getting the wiki embedded into the culture around here so we are well aware it's not a short term project

Wow, thank you sooo much jazzrack for adding my thread to the OOTP Community Wiki. Also, thank you for taking the time to create a Community Wiki for OOTP. I have never created a Wiki, but can imagine how much time and effort it takes to make one and I commend you for that:-) I always find Wikis very helpful, and I am sure I will learn a lot from the OOTP Wiki.

I will make sure to keep updating this thread, and feel free to use any info you find useful for the wiki. If there is anything else I can do to help, please let me know:-)

What I would do to help figure out how to start tying all the wiki pages together is look at wikis for others games and use that for inspiration. I did not come up with the idea for this thread, for example, all on my own. I got the idea from other video game forums that I have visited over the years. Somebody usually always creates a thread of useful links.

Also, look over the OOTP Manual and see how it is organize and that might help you to come up with sections and such. Hope this helps:-)

BeancheBlanco 04-25-2014 07:38 PM

I have a question about the link about the ideal distribution of minor leaguers in the OP. Why would you limit your minor league teams to such a small number of players? I've noticed that as the seasons go by, my minor league teams end up growing bigger and bigger (to around 50+ people on each team). Sure, a lot of these guys have little to no playing time but is there any reason to release them? Even for the seemingly hopeless prospects, there's always a chance they could suddenly show a lot of potential, which happens quite often in OOTP. Can it hurt at all to have a bunch of scrubs just sit on the bench if they are willing to?

Hello BeancheBlanco, that is a good question. From what I understand, there is no harm in keeping however many players in your many leagues as you want. I believe the reason that people only keep a certain amount is so that their minor league system stays organized and does not become cluttered with people who more than likely will never reach the majors.

Please feel free to just use the information as a guide/starting point in helping you determine what is best for your team/league:-)

it's also a good list of what needs wiki pages created, I saw at least 1 subject that already had a wiki page

so I used that link on the wiki page.

this is also a good list on subjects that need a wiki page.

Very nicely done jazzrack:-) The nice thing about putting together a wiki is that you do not have to do it all at one time. It is a project and you can put it together piece by piece.

I will keep tossing ideas and suggestions your way as they come to mind. Keep up the good work:-)
