The termination of a replacement player. This photo was shown in multiple newspapers as Quillin walked off the field for the last time in a Reds uniform when the players' strike had been settled. This is from the Rochester (NY) Democrat and Chronicle of April 3, 1995.

George Scott III

Outfielder George Scott III, son of major leaguer George Scott, was a 1995 replacement player with the Reds.

There are three minor league cards of him at:

Outfielder Alan Tanner was a replacement player with the 1995 Reds.

Source of photo: YouTube, a couple of years ago.

He did not play minor league ball, so he does not have a baseball-reference.com record. He is from Wellington, FL, and was born circa 1962.

Chris Vasquez

Outfielder Vasquez is the last of the 1995 Reds replacement players for whom I can provide image help.

Several of his minor league baseball cards are on the following webpage;

Furthermore, there is a nice Cedar Rapids Reds card of him at:

His baseball-reference.com record is at:

The only 1995 Reds replacement player I haven't been able to help you with from those on your list is Joey Milazzo. He did not play minor league ball, and I haven't found any images of him.

Joey Milazzo - reasoned guess

2 Attachment(s)
Outfielder Joey Milazzo was a 1995 Reds replacement player.

The photo on the left shows a Little Leaguer named Joe Milazzo in 1977. If the lad was about 11 years old at the time, then he would have been born around 1966, and would have been about age 29 in 1995, still at a playing age. So that's reasonable, even if off by a year or two. The photo is from the Fairbanks, Alaska, Daily News-Miner of August 25, 1977. This Joe Milazzo had made a key hit to bring victory for his Rotterdam, NY team in the Little League World Series in Williamsport.

The photo on the right shows a Joe Milazzo who is the baseball coach for Utica College. Utica is about 85 miles down the Interstate from Rotterdam in New York State. I suspect that it's the same Joe Milazzo who was the Little Leaguer. This Joe Milazzo has been coaching at various places around Utica and the Mohawk Valley for decades. If he was born around 1966, he would be in his mid-fifties now. The photo looks to be of someone of that age. The source of the photo is www.uticaod.com

I've written to the coach to see if I can get confirmation that he was indeed the Reds replacement player. I'll update this post if I receive an answer.

P.S. I don't think the coach is our man. He began coaching in 1981. I found a newspaper article that said he was age 54 in July of 2013, so he would have been born in 1959. Certainly couldn't have been the Little Leaguer pictured below. Would have been about age 36 in 1995 -- not impossible, but improbable for an outfielder with no professional experience. Another article said he had an assistant coach named Dan Bollana, who had been his sidekick since Little League days. Through Bollana's name, I found an article which indicates that the two graduated from the Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica with the class of 1976. So coach was from Utica, not Rotterdam. This still leaves the possibility that the Little Leaguer pictured on the left is OK. I've learned that he went on to do well at the Babe Ruth League level. The trail ends there at this point.

Holderfield and Minke

1 Attachment(s)
Here is an image of Cedar Rapids players Dean Minke and Hal Holderfield from 1957. Minke no hit Keokuk on August 7, 1957 with some help from Holderfield who made a fine catch from right field in the 7th inning. Holderfield spent 6 years in the minors never making it to the Brooklyn and later Los Angeles Dodgers, hit .264 with a scant 11 home runs. The no hitter was the height of a tough year for Dean Minke. He went 8-12 with a 4.57 ERA. His professional career ended a year later.

Gil Carter

I'm looking an image of outfielder Gil Carter who is credited with hitting a 733 foot minor league home run in 1959 for the Carlsbad Potashers. That year he hit 34 Hr and 117 RBI's in Class D ball. I have attached a photo from 1963 when Carter played for the semi pro Wichita Dreamliners.

More Gil Carter

Apparently all I had to do was Google Gil Carter baseball and hit images ...
He's wearing a Kansas City Monarch jersey but I have no information that he played for them when they were a traveling minor league team. He was signed by Monarchs great Buck O'Neil. Carter started playing in the low minors a bit late at 22 so perhaps he made the semi pro rounds as a youth. He's also pictured in a marvelous photo in a Des Moines uniform a team he did not stay with long enough to record an at bat. That's the team trainer with Gil Carter.

The 773 foot homerun ball

The story is that they measured the shot using aerial photography. Gil Carter had some serious power and maybe there was a strong wind blowing out that night.

I first posted this on the wrong page. Here is a switch hitting southpaw who first pitched in the Pirates organization in the late 50's and later had a solid career in the Mexican league.
