All-Star Game on wrong day

1 Attachment(s)
Hi, wondering if anyone can figure where I'm going wrong with my schedule.

Here's the top of my file

Code:

<SCHEDULE type="ILY_BGN_G14_SL1_D1_T4_D2_T4_SL2_D1_T4_D2_T4" inter_league="1" balanced_games="0" games_per_team="14" start_day_of_week="1" start_month="5" start_day="1" allstar_game_day="50">

Idea is that the season starts on the first Sunday after May 1st which seems to be happening but the All-Star game gets scheduled during early May rather than late June.

Is it starting to count from the 1st of April?

Actually, my latest test season has now seen the All-Star game schedule itself in the right place but once we hit July, the games stop happening each Sunday and are now on Fridays (it's a 14 game season where games take place once a week on Sunday). See attached schedules. All of the prior games to June are on Sundays and the rest after July are all on Fridays.

Schedules are confounding me a bit. Any help appreciated.

Do you have "force start on Sunday" checked?

mrbucket 04-03-2019 06:14 PM

Yep, Force Start on Sunday has been checked the whole time. The first time I used the schedule all the games were on Sunday, it was only as I progressed that things went wonky and games in the second half of the season started not being played on Sunday (though the All-Star game was on the wrong date from the start)

Might just need to run more tests to figure out the best way to do this.

Very strange. I created a test league, loaded the schedule, and saw that the games looked as expected except that early May ASG.

So I deleted the allstar_game_day from the heading the schedule file and reloaded it. This time the ASG was set on the Tuesday of the week open at mid-season (i.e., two days after where the schedule would have put the ASG).

In retrospect, I think maybe the "automatically schedule All-Star Game" setting in the scheduling options may have caused that weird case when I removed it from the file. But I cannot recheck things at the moment...

I tried deleting the ASG from the Edit Schedule screen (which apparently worked), but then when I tried the "Schedule series or game" button to try to manually add the ASG, the game locked up. I killed it and am having trouble getting the game to restart.

One suggestion is to try exporting the schedule after you upload yours - maybe the exported one will show something odd that differs from what you build and imported.

Maybe it was a bad idea to try to delete the ASG. Anyway, I did eventually get back into OOTP. I exported the imported schedule, and saw weirdness in the top-level SCHEDULE tag line.

That made me think there might be some sort of typo slipping by... Sure enough, I saw the very last two lines should be
Code:

</GAMES>
</SCHEDULE>

Those leading slashes are needed to make those closing tags that match the earlier opening tags. I was sure that would fix things, but it was still doing the same thing after I changed the file. I might have a little more time here to experiment.

I tried a bunch of things... generating fictional with various settings then replacing with imported, tinkering with the values in the file, etc. If the "Hold All-Star Game" option was turned off, it would not get put in, and the other games looked okay. But including it never worked right.

At least I think I understand the logic behind the game putting the ASG on that Mon right after the 2nd Sunday... The 14-game schedule with 1-game typical series length - the midpoint would be after 7 days. So a 3-day All-Star break would be days 8, 9, and 10, and the ASG itself would be on the middle day - day 9. The day 9 is that Mon after the second round of games on day 8, which is the second Sunday.

But no clue why the schedule settings are not being respected and it does its own thing on import.

Thanks for all your help GMO.

That happened to me too - games are all on Sunday, but the asg is on the second Monday in May. Not sure what's going on. I thought maybe because the file wasn't saved as an .lsdl file it was screwing things up, but changing it from .txt to .lsdl didn't change anything.

Of course, the all-star game date can always be set on the league settings/options page. Why it's not doing that automatically, though, is a mystery.

I have tried rescheduling the All-Star game through the league settings -- and it works -- but it did screw up most of the second half.

I've got a couple other ideas, see if it does the same thing in other versions of OOTP and maybe try to see what happens if I set April as my opening month rather than May. Will try that once I get off work.
