Most miserable fan bases
|
Bill Simmons likes to talk about most miserable sports cities and before this spring I would have said Washington DC
Now my pick would probably be Atlanta but the Braves are looking good and Atlanta United are shattering expansion team expectations and attendance records. But the Hawks and Falcons have had lots of misery and their hockey fans had their team torn from them. |
My biggest issue with this list is it ignores the most important factor.
By that I mean, so what if Sacramento is number 1 on this list. We are only talking about 4 actual sports fans. Similarly, the Padres. Very few fans give a toss about this team. And as to the Florida Panthers and Arizona Coyotes--do they still exist? Again, such a tiny group cares that it does not matter at all. |
"Problem is that the postseason is extremely rare in Colorado, as the thin air has made it almost impossible for the team to develop a solid pitching staff to go with its constant supply of power hitters."
Might want to watch the team this year. |
No Minnesota teams in the Top 25? Huh?
And really, from a Minnesota perspective, this doesn't make sense. |
I'll throw my hat in the 'my team isn't ranked high enough' ring either. Not the Brewers, mind you, but the Jets.
The two factors that were understated as to why being a Jets fan is terrible: (1) half the fans are absolute morons so as soon as I tell football fans that I'm a Jets fan often times I'm assumed to be one of those idiot fans, and (2) the Jets are not allowed to be mediocre by the national media, everything has to be blown up to the nth degree because everybody loves ribbing on the Jets (the butt fumble, that 49-3 Monday night loss against the Patriots a few years ago that was basically ESPN's top 4 stories for the following week, etc.). Then there's also the deep skepticism and pessimism that sets in as a Jets fan as well because you know your franchise has screwed this all up a million times before. Doesn't hurt that they often take the stupidest path to get to where they're going (like trading two second round picks to move up from 6 to 3 in the last draft, a deal I despised because of how much value they lost on the draft pick trade value board, despite the fact the Jets' track record in the second round in the last 10 years is atrocious). |
Meh its ESPN. Cant say ill lose any sleep over it.
