Unable to adjust grid to 3D stadium
I know I posted about this already in the 3D Models mods forum, but figured I'd share here (with new video evidence!) my frustrations with adjusting the grid to 3D stadiums, which I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with it (maybe a bug? I don't know.) This has happened to me for the last few versions, and happened on my last computer as well.
I follow the instructions on the latest version of OOTP XX as they are written, as shown in my video, on how to auto-adjust the 3D grid to a park. When I do what it tells me, absolutely nothing happens. What am I doing wrong, and is this a bug? Yes, my num lock is on. Supplemental video evidence: https://youtu.be/p1-1tBkNSjE |
Hey dishnet34,
you've actually found a bug, but the solution for you is simple though: The outo align feature only works with the num keys from the top row of your keyboard, not with the numbers on the keypad of your keyboard. So please try it with the non keypad number keys. Hope this helps. |

The ballpark model I'm having issues with is isedelyod's Perth Heat stadium, which can be found for download here (under Stadiums > Perth_heat): https://onedrive.live.com/?id=28C2B5...C2B51220ACF8B2 Every time I try to do the 1, 2, 3, 4 on that stadium, it freezes my cursor for a half second for some reason. |
Hey dishnet34,
I've found the cause of the problem: The surface normals are not pointing up, but the raycast algorithm needs the surface normals to point towards the camera. So you have two choices to get the grid right: 1. you just turn the 3d model around like you've already tried in your video and then set the points from below the field 2. you open the 3d model in the free 3d software "blender" and flip the surface normals there and save it again. Interestingly only the surface normals of the homeplate and the bases and the field lines seem to be facing down, the rest of the field points up, so when you click somewhere on the field, you should see the red green and yellow points. |
I just had time to try out the methods you suggested, turning and trying to place the points underneath the field and using SketchUp (another similar modeling program) to reverse the faces, but it unfortunately did not work. I still cannot even see the balls when I try to adjust the grid.
I feel like I'm in no-man's land when it comes to this. I've tried everything, and it still doesn't work. |
