MLB 2019 thread

Any predictions?

Pineywoods OOTPer 03-28-2019 11:17 AM

Opening day of the MLB season...the birds are chirping, the (hot) dogs are roasting, the popcorn is popping...

And the Cubs play the Rangers....

Frak me....I don't know who to pick.

Cobra Mgr 03-29-2019 06:05 AM

Play of the year candidate already

It's time for MLB to mandate the Dodgers do something about their security. Every year it seems like Dodger stadium has a fan killed or put into a coma. It is an absolute shame the league has been so apathetic to how dangerous that place is. It's not just that there is so much violence. But there is so much violence and they have no clue who did it. It's like there are no cameras w/video on the incident. People can kill someone and then get out of the ballpark scot free. Enough is enough.

This Cubs bullpen is going to be the death of me. Why didn’t the Cubs add any quality arms in the offseason??

What a great start to the season.

Pulled from no-hitter

Pitch count? Really?

Basically Hyde ripped out this kid's heart by denying him his, perhaps, one shot at greatness.

Araujo relieves him. Gives up a walk followed by a two-run homer. The O's go to hang on with a 6-5 victory. At least he still got the win. The O's almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Westheim 04-02-2019 05:14 PM

You want that ball? Take it like A MAN! (hides ball in glove and runs off towards centerfield, kicking dirt in the manager's direction occcasionally)

This is dumb. The Orioles are dumb. Pitch counts are dumb.

Cobra Mgr 04-03-2019 07:41 AM

Yeah, I see why pitchers taking batting practice is a waste of time.

They did up the security after the 2011 incident with the Giants fan. Security can't escort every fan to their car. You can't stop idiots, most likely drunk, from fighting. It doesn't matter how much security you have, they can't be everywhere. Plus it says that this happened in the parking lot, not inside the stadium. Even harder to have a security presence in such a large space.

Royals bullpen to Cubs: "hold my beer"

Westheim 04-03-2019 05:11 PM

The Mets meanwhile have a very good bullpen, but an idiot manager trying to fumble each and every game. It *is* hard to watch, despite them being 4-1.

Sorry. Poor excuse. This is an era where we can sit in a garage in any suburb & spot a gnat's rear end in Kuwait. You can't tell me they they can't have enough cameras in a parking lot to spot an assailant getting away.

It is not an excuse. Cameras aren't going to stop the violence. They are investigating and i'm sure they will find the person involved. It takes time.
This isn't a TV show where everything gets wrapped up in 60 minutes.

I never claimed there was anything that could completely stop any violence. Never said I expected a quick resolution. Stop puting words in my mouth.

I am saying if the Dodgers weren't so cheap as to skimp on security, including personnel, technology & equipment, they could prevent more.

How do you know how many muggings they are preventing compared to other MLB teams?

No clue. I admit that.

So how many deaths & comas are in the other parks? I haven't heard of anyone dying after visiting 1st Citizens & Philly crowds are suppossed to be the roughest in America.

Westheim 04-05-2019 05:53 PM

Teams, perhaps understandably, tend to not make announcements about these things if they can prevent it. Wasn't there are lady struck by a foul ball and killed at Dodger Stadium last year? It took months for the news of that story to seep through the cracks.

Unrelated, I watched the Mariners-White Sox tilt from the day game menu (it was the single item) and that was some of the worst baseball you can imagine. Tim Beckham made three errors in one inning, for crying out loud. Not one pitcher that could find the zone. Some ugly flails and misses. Primarily Jay Bruce, whom I despise. Dan Vogelbach thrown out going second to third on a grounder to the second baseman. Both those teams will suffer the next six months.
