The San Antonio Missions are here to kick off the second half with a 4 game series through the weekend. They lost 3 of 4 at Sacramento to end the first half last weekend. We won 3 of 4 games in San Antonio, April 8-11, holding them to 5 totals runs. They are last in the PCL in scoring with 2.85 runs per game (Portland is #4 with 4.54). The Missions are on pace to score 462 runs for the season, which would shatter the current record for futility in the PCL of 575 runs scored by the San Diego Padres last year. The Major League mark is 515 runs scored by Brooklyn in 2001. The Padres, by the way, are on pace to score 738 runs this season. The Missions are 11th in fewest runs allowed with 4.41 per game (Portland is #1 with 3.17). Their run differential is -136, the worst in Baseball, and ours is +119, now the best in Baseball! Which means we are likely to lose 3 of 4 games this series...

San Antonio Missions (30-57 .345 22.5 GB in 8th (last) place in the PCL East) at

Johnson has allowed 5 total runs in his last 5 starts (38 IP). He gave up 1 run in 8 IP last time out, but did not get a decision.

Attendance: 24,278

Top of the First:

Ken Shepherd lines out to center. Duane Bailey strikes out! Sergio Parra grounds out to 2nd! 1-2-3!

Bottom of the First:
A.J. Lee squibs one and is out, 2-3. Jerry Suazo lines out to deep center. Enrique Ramos doubles to left center. Glenn Snowden grounds out to short...

Top of the Seventh:

Ken Shepherd leads off with a grounder up the middle, but A.J. Lee makes a great stop and throws him out! But Lee calls out Trudy the Trainer... Dave Risinger (28-R) goes in to play 2nd. The next two strike out!

Top of the Ninth:
Still scoreless... P John Krawczyk is at 88 pitches. He has had a great game and it will be a shame to see him get a loss... 1 hit and no unintentional walks allowed... P Preston Rogers is allowed to hit, having a great game himself with 4 hits and 2 walks allowed, and he swings at the first pitch and grounds out hard to 3rd. Ken Shepherd swings at the first pitch and grounds out to short. Duane Bailey grounds their second hit of the game to left... He tries to steal and C Tim Higbee throws him out!! Bottom of the Ninth:

P Preston Rogers is at 95 pitches. 3-4-5 hitters up for us. Enrique Ramos strikes out looking... Glenn Snowden lines out to deep left... Tim Higbee doubles to right center! Jeff Galka flies out to right...

Extras!

Top of the Tenth:

P Preston Rogers is allowed to hit and flies out to right.

Bottom of the Tenth:
7-8-9 up for us... Kim Springer flies out to center. Now they make a pitching change... Seems kind of stupid to let him bat with the bases loaded and then only let him face 1 batter.... New Pitcher: Danny Billings (27-R) with a 3.03 ERA in 29.2 IP. He has been reinstated as their closer over Larry Hedglin, who was the closer when he blew a Save and took a loss on Friday. Denny Peters flies out to deep center... PH Oscar Trejo (31-R), who is 1 for his last 9, grounds out to short....

We are in Seattle to play the Rainiers a 3 game series over the weekend. They were just swept here in 4 games by Milwaukee. We are 3-3 against them on the season and lost a pair of games the last time we were here, May 17-18. They are 8th in scoring in the PCL with 4.31 runs per game (Portland is down to #5 with 4.42). We have hit 3 total home runs in the last 11 games, all of them by 1B Glenn Snowden. The Rainiers are 10th in fewest runs allowed with 4.38 per game (Portland is still #1 with 3.23). Their run differential is -6 and ours is +113, still the Best in Baseball.

Portland Beavers (62-33 .653 3.5 GA in 1st place in the PCL West) at
Seattle Rainiers (48-48 .500 14.5 GB in 5th place in the PCL West)

POR: John Krawczyk (25-L 4-3 2.65) Rookie vs. SEA: Bill Foley (29-R 5-9 5.28) Silver Slugger(01,03)

Krawczyk pitched 9 shutout innings last time out, but gave up a run in the 10th and lost. Pitching him in the Kingdome against Ronaldo Entrevinhas and Luis Hernandez is a bit scary, but we have no other viable options.

We are back home to play the Hollywood Stars a 2 game set. They lost 2 of 3 in San Francisco over the weekend. We are 6-3 against them this season and won 2 games the last time they were here, June 28-29. They are 12th in the PCL in scoring with 3.47 runs per game (Portland is up to #3 with 4.52). They are 5th in fewest runs allowed with 3.81 per game (Portland is #1 with 3.17). Their run differential is -33 and ours is +132, still the Best in Baseball.

Hollywood Stars (49-49 .500 16 GB in 4th place in the PCL West) at
Portland Beavers (65-33 .663 6 GA in 1st place in the PCL West)

HOL: Antonio Gonzalez (25-L 4-2 1.85) vs. POR: Frank Flores (25-R 13-5 2.56) All-Star/PCLCS MVP

Gonzalez is their #1 starter. He gave up 3 runs in 5.1 IP last time out in a no decision. He cannot throw 100 pitches anymore due to his numerous injuries; I do not know why they do not put him in the Bullpen. We have faced him twice this season, including on Opening Day and have not scored a run off him, but he was no wins and has only pitched 6.1 innings.

Flores will be making his 3rd try at becoming the 1st 14 game winner in the Majors. If he does not get it this game, he is going to get passed. He last two starts since pitching in the All-Star Game have been duds, allowing 9 runs (7 earned) in 8.2 total innings.
