OOTP6.5 in Windows 7

Has anyone gotten it work in Windows 7?

I just tried to load it and got a black screen.. Any ideas?

Got it to work..

Here is how:

Windows 7 Professional
Right click on icon
on the "shortcut" page - click Run - Maximized
Compatibility Page:
Run in Windows XP SP3
Disable Visual Themes
Disable Desktop Composition
Disable display scalling on high DPI settings
Run the program as administrator

Right clicking on the program in the start menu and selecting run program as administrator works for OOTP6 in Windows 7.

Anyone find out how to get the UAC to stop warning me about it without turning off the UAC? Its annoying but functional this way. If OOTP6.5 were digitally signed, I think the issue would go away.

A guy in my 6.5 league found roughly the same solution. Here's his full list of instructions to install v6 or v6.5 from scratch on a Window 7 machine:

  • After install, go to your desktop and right-click the OOTP 6 icon.
  • Click 'Properties'.
  • Select the tab titled 'Compatibility'.
  • Check the box that says 'Run this program in Compatibility Mode for:'
  • Select 'Windows XP SP3' from this list. (Note, if program fails to launch after this step, go back and select 'Windows XP SP2')

Step 2
  • Double-Click the OOTP 6 icon to open.
  • Windows Security will pop up due to it being run in XP mode. Approve this action.
  • Go through the steps to license your product, inserting your order ID. (this can be found in your receipt.txt file from your previous install)
  • If you have not purchased OOTP 6, then go through the purchase instructions. You will have to manually insert the year when prompted for CC information.

You are DONE! Unless installing 6.5, instructions to follow.

This has been tested and works. An export worked as well. Good luck.

I have successfully downloaded and installed OOTP 6, but I can only download OOTP 6.5. When I click install, it only installs about 1/10th and the install box disappears. Sometimes another box pops up saying the program may have not installed properly. I try to reinstall with the same result.

Any suggestions?

Does anybody still check this forum?? Hello!:crying: I'm getting desperate!

LFC1892 06-28-2010 10:07 PM

Sorry man. I had the same issues and followed the above advice to the letter and when i launched 6.5 I always got the black screen. I eventually gave up and now have 6.5 on my XP desktop and 11 on my windows 7 laptop.

Good luck with it.

That sux! I don't understand why 6.0 installs just fine, but 6.51a will not install. I can't get a response from either Steve or Markus either. :crying:

My old laptop is on it's last legs...

LFC1892 06-30-2010 08:29 PM

Not sure man, maybe it's a hardware issue? OOTP6 installs and launches just fine, but after installing 6.5(exactly as described above) when I launch all I get is the black screen. Graphics card maybe. I've got a Toshiba A500 with a GT230M, and while it's not exactly ultra performance, it's OK. Yeah, 6 runs, but 6.5 won't. Strange.

Did you restart your computer after installing 6 and 6.5?

XPPD1510 07-04-2010 12:57 PM

yes...

XPPD1510 07-04-2010 01:01 PM

Windows 7 says OOTP 6.5 is incompatible. It's that simple. I just wonder why...???:(

LFC1892 07-04-2010 08:38 PM

What do you mean by "old laptop"? How well does it run Windows 7?

It doesn't. The old laptop has Win XP and is what I used for the last several years to run my online league. I just bought a new Asus and transferred the license only to find that I am unable to completely install OOTP 6.5 due to it being incompatible.

I mentioned the old laptop in the context of my ability to continue to run my online league. Currently, the online league goes the minute the old laptop finally crashes. It might hang in there for a while, yet it might not. My old laptop is an IBM Thinkpad R40.

Sorry man, I was dazed and confused ;) Hope you can find a solution somehow. Good luck.

XPPD1510 07-06-2010 10:40 PM

I have hope! Markus came back from vacation and has referred me to the support folks here at this awesome site. So far the tech can't get OOTP 6.0 to install on his Win 7 computer! but he is working on it... I see light at the end of the tunnel.:thumbup1:

LFC1892 07-07-2010 04:00 AM

Well I finally got mine to run. Entirely my fault :o I didnt change the location of where to unzip the 6.5 file, and it created it's own directory. I then changed it to the OOTP6 directory and voila, what do you know....it works. How freakin embarassing.

LFC1892 07-07-2010 04:53 AM

Spoke too soon  This is driving me nuts, lol.

Apparently, there has not been a resolution to this. I have OOTP 6/6.5 installed on a Win 8 machine, but it is being repaired at this time. So, I installed 6 on a Win 7 Pro machine, with licensing. When I try to install 6.5, it starts, goes about 1/4 or the way and just stops, no error message. I specified to run in Win XP Compatibility Mode, and as administrator, but it makes no difference. I have followed all the suggestions, but it still doesn't install.

Any other ideas? Many thanks.
