MLB 2019 thread
Any predictions?

Opening day of the MLB season...the birds are chirping, the (hot) dogs are roasting, the popcorn is popping...
And the Cubs play the Rangers.... Frak me....I don't know who to pick. |
|
It's time for MLB to mandate the Dodgers do something about their security. Every year it seems like Dodger stadium has a fan killed or put into a coma. It is an absolute shame the league has been so apathetic to how dangerous that place is. It's not just that there is so much violence. But there is so much violence and they have no clue who did it. It's like there are no cameras w/video on the incident. People can kill someone and then get out of the ballpark scot free. Enough is enough.

This Cubs bullpen is going to be the death of me. Why didn’t the Cubs add any quality arms in the offseason??
|
What a great start to the season.

Pulled from no-hitter
Pitch count? Really?
Basically Hyde ripped out this kid's heart by denying him his, perhaps, one shot at greatness. https://deadspin.com/this-is-the-fac...nth-1833742595 |

You want that ball? Take it like A MAN! (hides ball in glove and runs off towards centerfield, kicking dirt in the manager's direction occcasionally)
This is dumb. The Orioles are dumb. Pitch counts are dumb. |

Royals bullpen to Cubs: "hold my beer" |
The Mets meanwhile have a very good bullpen, but an idiot manager trying to fumble each and every game. It *is* hard to watch, despite them being 4-1.

tie game 7th inning royals bullpen pitching walk walk walk walk https://1865987047.rsc.cdn77.org/boa...1_rolleyes.gif that's gotta be at least the 4th or 5th time they've walked in a run this season (6 games total) its like watching 8 yr olds play https://1865987047.rsc.cdn77.org/boa...gue_smilie.gif |

I am saying if the Dodgers weren't so cheap as to skimp on security, including personnel, technology & equipment, they could prevent more. |

So how many deaths & comas are in the other parks? I haven't heard of anyone dying after visiting 1st Citizens & Philly crowds are suppossed to be the roughest in America. |
Teams, perhaps understandably, tend to not make announcements about these things if they can prevent it. Wasn't there are lady struck by a foul ball and killed at Dodger Stadium last year? It took months for the news of that story to seep through the cracks.
Unrelated, I watched the Mariners-White Sox tilt from the day game menu (it was the single item) and that was some of the worst baseball you can imagine. Tim Beckham made three errors in one inning, for crying out loud. Not one pitcher that could find the zone. Some ugly flails and misses. Primarily Jay Bruce, whom I despise. Dan Vogelbach thrown out going second to third on a grounder to the second baseman. Both those teams will suffer the next six months. |

The business should hold responsibility for keeping their patrons reasonably safe. All the spectator events being held in this country in front of crowds of 40000+ & Dodger stadium is the only major one I hear repeated incidents of someone ending up brain dead in the parking lot. So until someone brings me proof it is happening multiple times in multiple USA venues I maintain my position. Chavez Ravine is dangerous and it is long past time for MLB to fulfill their obligation to do something about it. |

Not that he needs it while making $161m for quite literally nothing. |
I wanna see Trevor Rosenthal pitch to Chris Davis
its like the opposite of the immovable object vs the unstoppable force https://thespun.com/more/top-stories...in-mlb-history |
Rosenthal hits him, but Davis swings and misses, three times.

I have watched baseball for at least 100+ games a year since 2012. I had never seen a guy make three errors in one inning. Now I have seen it twice in a matter of days. SEA Tim Beckham on Friday, PIT Kevin Newman just now, in the same inning in which Anthony Rizzo hit a liner off Jameson Taillon's head, and the Pirates didn't take him out.
Fun times! |

When I grow up, I wanna be like Chris Davis! I will make $20m and won't have to do **** for it.

Chris Davis is now at 0-for-61.
Chris Davis will be the end of baseball. |
Davis is the essence of 2 of baseballs problems. First is too many one-dimensional hitters striking out too much, swinging for the fences all the time. Second is long-term big dollar contracts. How much would somebody pay Dave Kingman today?

votto popped out to 1B today

Not the majors, but a HS kid hit the HR cycle in a game. They were the 1st 4 HR's of his career.

kinda amazing, yeah?
Dating back to his MVP season in 2010, he’s only hit eight infield pop ups. |

Too bad they all can't pitch. It's going to be a long year. On a related note, the league is about to stop pitching to Yelich and I'm going to be sad. |
What's more amazing? The catch? Or the fact he can overthrow 1st from center by about 25-30 ft?

Having runners on the corners and one out against Blake Snell, Billy Hamilton runs the Royals into a 1-3-5-2-3-4 double play. You will soon see this on the MLB.com frontpage.
Isn't running his only asset? Woof. |
Baseball suspends retired player.
In other sports news, Bill Belichek fined Gronk for missing mandatory off season workouts. |
