Monty Brewster Baseball Association Recruiting Thread (historical)

Let's try this again, with a league name that isn't being used. :)

The Global Baseball Consortium is proud to announce their newest venture: Monty Brewster Baseball Association (MBBA!)

Here's the premise:

JANUARY 1973: Major League Baseball passes the Designated Hitter rule for use in the American League on a trial basis. Oakland owner Charlie Finley lobbied hard for the rule, and his counterparts obliged. The National League did not approve the rule, and were far from alone in opposing it. Many Americans were against the latest thing to disrupt the National Pastime. In 1969, Curt Flood successfully challenged the reserve clause in baseball, beginning arbitration. Challenges to bring about true free agency for players is lurking on the horizon.

Along the way, a society for preservation of the National Pastime was formed. The society decided to launch their own baseball league that would abolish the Designated Hitter and fix financial and player association problems before they arose.
"Businessman" Montgomery "Monty" Brewster, who has come into millions of dollars from a deceased uncle, donated the money to the league and is the society's chairman.

Details in a nutshell:
1) Begins 1973
2) Fictional Players with some MLB defectors upcoming
3) NO DH!!
4) Coaches/Scouts Disabled
5) Pre Drafted Teams; 50 rounds, Random Order, Serpentine
6) City/Nicknames of Teams Pre-Determined
7) Traditional Ratings System
8) Financials On; Salary Cap $90M; Cash Max $15M
9) Team Markets set to Good; Loyalty to Good
10) Fan Interest set to 65 on all teams
11) Amateur Draft 7 rounds
12) Filled Minor Leagues
13) 24 teams; 2 leagues; 3 divisions each (4/4/4)
14) 3 Round Playoff Format
15) ERA= Baseball Boom

My plan is to launch this league by the end of January. In the upcoming weeks, I will be searching for owners. You can email me with interest. Please include the following information:

Comments/Questions/Concerns

I am looking for active owners with a real passion for baseball. It is my goal with this league as it is with all of my other league to put together a group of owners in which all will have an enjoyable experience. I'm sure everyone realizes that the worst thing in online leagues is inactive/dead owners. Rest assured that I am a Commissioner that does not tolerate that, as I'm sure the ORB owners will attest. This will also not be a league where you are assured a team by simply emailing me with interest. I'll want to discuss things with you.

I look forward to discussing this opportunity with some of you.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. The original owners will get the opportunity to design their own parks. Brewster is going to spring for ballparks all around! :)

Still plenty of openings for qualified owners in the MBBA!
Email me!

Another league run by Cooley? What does this bring the total to now? 823?

JWay 12-27-2002 12:36 PM

Recte44 12-27-2002 12:40 PM

He's setting up franchises. :)
Sometimes I think both of us are crazy. Makes for a good match.

JWay 12-27-2002 01:10 PM

I'll be hoping for the best.

Question about:
2) Fictional Players with some MLB defectors upcoming.

Can you expand on this?

USN Squid 12-27-2002 01:58 PM

Actually, this will be only the 2nd league that I presently have a hand in running.
You guys have the wrong impression..............I've only started 2 leagues that I planned on running myself.........Glory Days and ABA, the rest were just 'helping'.

Anytime I can help a fledgling commish get started, I will.............in this case, Matt doesnt need the help to get established, I'm just intrigued by this league's idea.

We do this in the ABA. We bring in 4-5 average MLB'ers each season, some rooks, some established players.

Makes for a great story.........

Not sure how Matt plans to do this, but it does work if you pick and choose your MLB'ers carefully, so that they don't become superstars and your fictionality stays intact.

Recte44 12-28-2002 12:34 AM

Mark has the right idea here. I did borrow this idea from the ABA. I think it is one of the best ideas I've seen in any online league. He does about 3-5 a year. Ours might be a little closer to 10 after a while. Like the ABA, there won't be any superstars coming over here, but role players, failed rookies, etc. People that would really consider making a league jump.

Recte44 12-28-2002 10:35 AM

Bump. Still need about 10 owners, about 5 Order IDs. Email me!
