Is this league setup possible?

Each team would have 11-14 players that could all pitch and play just about any position.

Similar to a youth baseball travel team.

BIG17EASY 01-12-2015 02:45 PM

You'd have to play around with pitcher stamina settings to test it out.

On a side note, don't most youth travel baseball teams have more like 18 or so players?

Padreman 01-12-2015 02:53 PM

You could but the game would have players like that you have manually change their stats so they can play every position and pitch

munstermash 01-12-2015 02:54 PM

not sure

i just want a league that is full of teams that can both pitch and play the field

i may just have to go with a small staff and a small bench

BIG17EASY 01-12-2015 03:09 PM

The bigger issue is probably getting the game to create that many players who can do both.

This - you'd be doing a lot of editing of your player ratings.

munstermash 01-12-2015 03:38 PM

So if i created a 10 team league with 12 players a team i would have 120 players to edit.

I think i would then have to set the game not to create free agents so i could edit them when i needed to create one.

sounds like work to me, not sure i want to do that much of it

I think you could export all of your players to a CSV file, simply edit them in Excel, and then re-import them into your game. That could speed up the process.

But you'd also have to do editing for future players every season.

One solution for this would be for Markus to add some settings to the engine config file for OOTP that would allow the user to customize the game so that there would be a greater frequency of pitchers who are dual-purpose players, along with the ability to tweak the engine settings so that you can make dual-purpose players and/or pitchers better hitters.

set your pcm's so low that the players being created have editor ratings in the single digits. Then every player will be a "dual" player. You would just have to mess with your league total output to generate realistic stats.

munstermash 01-13-2015 12:56 PM

That is an interesting way to create it, i may mess with that setup tonight.

This might work.

Probably wouldn't have to mess with league totals any more than a normal league though. League wide talent, despite the fact that it's basically none existent, will be equal across the entire league. Lousy hitters, lousy pitchers - they'll play competitive ball.

What he'll have to do is turn off player development, otherwise he'll eventually wind up with some studs and the bad talent will really start to show. :)

That should work to create dual players without having to edit everyone. But won't the lack of disparity in talent lead to players being mostly equal? For lack of a better phrase, they'll all basically be league average. That would be a pretty boring league, despite being competitive, if that's the case.

I think to make the ratings look better, you'd have to set it to relative to league

munstermash 01-13-2015 02:47 PM

i am going to give it a try tonight and see if it works.

munstermash 01-13-2015 04:32 PM

First test is a major fail.

I set all the PCM's to .100 turned off developmen and finances.

in four years we have a total of 7 hr's hit, no player has hit 2. I did see one player that had 306 hits in a season. i turned position fatigue off so that may have something to do with it.

i had only had 3 position players pitch in those four seasons

rosters are set at the lowest level of 15, with a 5 man rotation

pitching stamina is low

pitchers do not walk any batters at all, 7 in 199 innings is the highest walk total by pitchers

munstermash 01-13-2015 04:49 PM

i spoke too soon, i am getting a lot of players now playing the field and pitching.

the test continues....

munstermash 01-13-2015 08:17 PM

So after simming several more seasons most teams now have 11 pitchers and four position players on their rosters.

Most of the pitchers play both ways so in a 162 game season it shows that some played over 200. I guess that is because of playing both positions.

SP Kenny Carter went 10-14 on the mound starting 41 games and also hit .301 in 753 AB's

darkcloud4579 01-13-2015 08:40 PM

This is interesting!

munstermash 01-13-2015 10:48 PM

After looking through some box scores it appears some players are hitting twice in the order. M. Mann played both RF and pitched in the game, his at-bats where counted in both spots of the order.
