OOTP 13 update (version 13.10.37) is available - improves font rendering!

Hey guys!

During development of OOTP 14 we have identified an issue which caused some font rendering problems in OOTP (numbers not aligning properly, for example). So we have decided to fix this issue for OOTP 13 as well and release another patch. And here it is, basically an early Christmas present :D

Changelist of this patch compared to version 13.9.32:
- Improved font rendering
- Improved add-ons dialog
- Commish email after sim -> improved error messages (sometimes it crashed when showing error message)
- Fixed a few minor bugs

UPDATE INFO:
To apply the patch, simply download the setup file and install it over your current installation. Alternatively, for PC only, there is a smaller patch file which will update your current installation properly. There is no need to uninstall or unlicense your current copy! However, you should quit the game before installing it, of course. If you have modified any default files, please make sure you backup these files and restore them after the update. Your saved games are not touched and will remain compatible with the new version. This version is also compatible to version 13.9 online league files.

Alright, enjoy the holidays! We're getting back to coding OOTP 14 now, so that we can release it in time for Opening Day 2013 :D

Cheers,
Markus + Andreas

Thanks. Is it safe to assume this will be last patch for this version?

spitfire 12-11-2012 06:28 AM

If another significant bug pops up, I'd hope they'll still put out a patch for it.

Well, unless something major crops up in this release, then version 13.10 will be the last update for OOTP 13.

During the whole year we have added improvements, features, tweaks and bugfixes. I really feel we did a good job supporting the game throughout the year. I hope you guys agree and will support us by buying OOTP 14 once it's released in a few months. :)

PSUColonel 12-11-2012 07:07 AM

Absolutely...13 is a great version, and I for one am looking forward to a lot of great new features in 14.

Scottiedog 12-11-2012 07:38 AM

OOTP has come so far as a game since the first version. It truly amazes me how great this game is.
Also, from top to bottom you have an awesome staff Markus.....thank you!

weppnesp 12-11-2012 09:27 AM

For your info: my Linux install was missing a library: libmysqlclient_r.so.15

I found a replacement but others might have same problem. Thanks for supporting Linux!

MizzouRah 12-11-2012 09:50 AM

Font fix looks good! :)

jmount78 12-11-2012 09:59 AM

OOTP 13 has been well worth the full purchase price. I really appreciate the continued support through the year. Can't wait for 14.

OOTP is a lifetime subscription to me. But OOTP13 was leaps and bounds above the other versions imo and I don't know how much better OOTP14 will be. It's going to be interesting to see what you and your team will come up with next time around.

Wow. Certainly didn't expect any more patches. Great work!

Sooooooo, any idea when we might get our first peek at 14? :)

Preordering will start late January, and we will have a preliminary feature list and some screenshots on that date too :)

Eckstein 4 Prez 12-11-2012 11:39 AM

Took me a minute to notice the font difference, but it is a significant improvement. Thanks!

Of course we will. OOTP is an outstanding simulation, a tremendous entertainment product AND a great bargain.

Plus it has great support!

The Wolf 12-11-2012 11:45 AM

Oh, and as for the much-needed font fix:

HURRAY HURRAY HURRAY!

And thank you, Markus. You didn't have to do this - you could have used this as a new feature hook for OOTP 14 - but the fact that you did it anyway says a great deal about your quality as a person.

Sure it could be saved for 14, but I dont see how fixing a bug can be called a "new feature".

OOTP is great, no doubt about it - you get an excellent product, get several free patches over the year ... and not to forget excellent Customer's Service.

I recently moved to Windows 8 and after I had to do another complete re-install couldn't activate OOTP13 anymore - and Gary helped me out in no time ... Customer's Service like that even more separates OOTP from the rest of the pack.

Anyway, I'm already looking forward to v14 - I can't wait to find out what my crazy fellow countryman will come up with for the next version ;)

struggles_mightily 12-11-2012 12:28 PM

Not to diminish the significance of the font fix, but it was really the phrase 'development of OOTP 14' that made my tummy feel funny when I got that pop-up...

"Improved displays! Better fonts!"

Cras 12-11-2012 02:33 PM

break something, then fix it and call it a new feature......aka the EA Games buisness model.

at least they didnt charge for the Mass Effect 3 new ending feature :P

PsychoBulk 12-11-2012 03:41 PM

Ah, thats more relaxed, say my eyes.

Top work Markus :friday:

This is a test of what I say about understanding, somewhat, the logistical end of this business and therefore being willing to cut some slack.

I thought way back when that it was unlikely the font problem would be fixed in 13, because it would probably be too late and too much work for the remainder of this version cycle. But I was wrong!

So, what would be the point of digging up those old "Fix Font?" threads and rehashing them? For the purpose of saying "I told you so?" Or the satisfaction of highlighting someone's dismissive response when confronted with the issue here?

No, I'm taking the high road and I am doing so with the knowledge that sooner or later, all the problems encountered in this game WILL be resolved by its creator because he gives a very big damn about it and its community. Thank you, Markus.

You're obviously not in marketing. Product defects can be features and benefits.;)

Edit: not referring to OOTP.

Honorable_Pawn 12-11-2012 06:08 PM

Just to hook you up I'll preorder--even though I probably won't play it until it is nice and patched.

Also, I would like to pay a little extra :hello!!:

The Wolf 12-11-2012 06:14 PM

Buy two copies.

Marinersfan51 12-11-2012 06:29 PM

I'm not sure I can wait until January for OOTP 14 news. This is going to be harder than waiting until February for new Walking Dead.

I don't have access to the game at the moment. Can someone briefly describe what I should expect to be different with the font fix?

You can refer to them however you please - a bug is a bug, period. Calling something by another name doesn't change what it is.

And if your foolish enough to believe what the people in marketing tell you, well, as the old saying goes - a fool and his money are soon parted.

Geez chill. I work for a very marketing oriented business and I was poking fun at them.

Really not sure what you're talking about here. I dug up the font thread for the sole purpose to finally give it some closure.

I would say the fonts now are perfect and appreciate all Markus does in support of the greatest text sim I have ever played. Even when some versions ago, I didn't care for it's direction - I still preorder it every year without question.

Finally able to update and I gotta say that the font is so much better! I really do believe that software companies like 2K and EA could learn a lesson or two from you guys.

Thanks!

Absolutely. I had no idea another patch was coming out. Also, I had been away for a few years caught up in life. Bought this version, and I can say confidently I haven't been so immersed in a game since Red Dead Redemption. Looking forward to 14

Athletics17 12-12-2012 12:43 AM

Thank you so much for this patch. This is a huge aesthetic improvement. I am greatly appreciative for all your hard work in making this my favorite game of all time.

Cornelius McGillicuddy 12-12-2012 08:44 AM

I agree, the fonts look much nicer. But it would be great if the size could be adjusted. Some of us are a little older and the eyes don't focus as well as they used to. I use the BIG size in pbp and that helps a lot. I very much appreciate that is available. Extending that size option in other parts of the game like player cards and news, for example, would be helpful.

Reggie 12-12-2012 04:42 PM

Oh, I'll be buying OOTP 14. I'll be buying 2 copies most likely. My brother is going to switch to this game if it's the last thing I do on the planet!

I had a lot of fun with this version.

beorn 12-13-2012 11:14 AM

Any word on whether online leagues need to keep everyone on the same version?

beorn I can tell ya some people in my league advanced but I as commish did not. And no issues yet.

It seems like the status quo every patch is, if commish is on latest version - owners need to be on the same version
