WHA Data
I've been playing as the 1975-76 Cincinnati Stingers in the World Hockey Association...however, some of the names were sticking in my head as not adding up.
After going to Hockey Reference, I saw my memory wasn't playing tricks on me--all the players and teams for 1975-76 are actually for 1976-77. |
Go Stingers!

First, as to the issue--it appears all the data are correct. The confusion is that the game considers the 1975-76 season to be "1975" when you go to pick a historic year, not "1976" as conventional wisdom goes.
As to Andy and WLW...I grew up in South Jersey, deep in Flyers' county. While a huge fan of the orange and the black, I was enough of a hockey geek that I followed the WHA as best as I could in the pre-internet era. Typically, this meant grabbing the yearly copy of Zander Hollander's "Complete Handbook of Pro Hockey" and hoping for the occasional blurb in Sports Illustrated. Then I fooled around one night and found that 50,000 watt WLW would reach my house later in the evening. Pretty static-filled, yes, but I was listening to WHA hockey. Naturally, I became a Stingers fan. I don't know if Andy is still alive, but I do remember hearing that he developed spasmodic dysphonia. He also sued WLW in 1999 or so. |
