CW's All-Timers League
 

This is a project I started in OOTPX, but I'm moving it to OOTP11 and planning to release at the same time. The project? A 48-team league featuring the all-time greatest players in the Majors.

The Players:
There have been a lot of All-Time player sets, but all of them have either used single season stats or career stats for player ratings. I feel like neither give a true representation of player talent for the type of game I want to play. Single season stats make guys like Darin Erstad a stud, even though he basically had only one great season. Career stats hurt guys like Fernando Valenzuela who basically was out of gas by the end of his career. Therefore, I created a modified Lahman database with each players' six best seasons (based on a slightly modified wOBA or FIP), neutralized. Every single player with six qualifying Major League seasons is in this set. Fielding is imported with the new OOTP11 fielding DB from the same six seasons I picked as the player's best offensive years (so Sheffield won't be able to play 3B). I also added 168 Negro League players using Cooperstown's wonderful Negro League set. I adjusted all their ratings to fit in with the rest of this set. There is also one bonus player that I added for fun...someone with only one career PA.

The Teams:
Another problem with all-time sets are the original 16 teams. How are even the oldest expansion teams (Angels, Astros, Mets, etc.) supposed to compete with the long storied histories of teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, Pirates, and Giants? Well, I've broken all the original teams in half. Each original team has a pre-1958 team and a 1958+ team (except the Browns/Orioles and the Twins/Senators, which are broken at the point the team moved cities). Jackie Robinson will play for Brooklyn, and Sandy Koufax will play for Los Angeles.

Each player is assigned to the team they played the most games with. This eliminates any debate of "I don't agree with Player A being on Team B". If a player played 6 years with the Giants, four in N.Y., two in S.F., and then 5 more years with other teams after, they will be on the S.F. Giants because they played with the Giants franchise more than any other, and the bulk of their career is 1958+. The Marlins, Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Rays are all on one team: the Arizona Rock Marrays. For players that never played enough games with any one team to qualify, they are on the Miami Journeymen. All pre-1900 players have been randomly split onto two teams: the Louisville Colonels and the Providence Grays. The Negro League players have been split onto the Birmingham Black Barons and the Kansas City Monarchs.

The teams have been split into two sub-leagues, three divisions with eight teams each:

This sounds like something I will try. I like that the Twins team doesnt include the Washington players.

I will probably use this set. I like playing with past players and this looks like it is a better way to see all the players from baseball together.

How about the Marlins,Rays,Diamondbacks,Rockies as sept team? You could do all the Negro League Teams? Geographical? How about Free-Agent Market with people?

Will they be any Minor Leagues?
Home Grown Teams would also be good in it's own League.

You could stretch and make two teams, but neither would be able to compete, and they'd have no depth.

There are tons of Negro League teams... I think two is good for now, and I'd consider adding another team or two for a future set.

Release all players on the Miami Journeymen and Arizona Rock Marrays and remove those two teams. BAM! Free agents! :D

That is a good idea, and one that can be pretty easily accomplished by editing the set.

I can't wait. I kind of excited about ootp 11. I was not excited about 10.

Royals

Minor League Rosters are a must because saves me a trip to have to do. Maybe just Triple-A.
MLB Network did on 30 and 30 Home Grown Teams.
I can name lots of people on the last 4 Expansion Teams. I don't mined you combined both Florida Teams because I would have that as my team.

I am very confused. I understood these rosters to be included already in version 11 and that there was a quick-play option available for novices like myself?

I am looking forward to seeing my favorites playing in one league all together, but am seriously confused on how to make what I have pictured in my frazzled brain.

The roster quickstart included with OOTP11 is Cooperstown's excellent All-Time set. My set is independent from that one.

Main differences between Cooperstown's set and mine:
- Cooperstown's set uses the player's single best season to determine ratings, and I use an average of the player's six best seasons.
- I split the original 16 teams in half.
- Cooperstown's set is more balanced, so some players are on teams they didn't play the most games with. I strictly placed players on the team they played the most games with.
- Cooperstown set doesn't have Negro League players. However, he has another set (that doesn't come with OOTP11) that does and it also includes Nippon's greatest players, which is something I do not have.

This sound like it will be great. Looking forward to the release.

NOTES:
- Due to getting weird statistical output, there are no stadiums in this version. I'm gonna play around with it until I get it right and have stadiums in a future update.
- Injuries are on Normal. Each team is deep enough to deal with it, but if you don't want injuries, you'll have to turn them off.

Great Rosters! In next version I would take Miami and have all Florida people on it.

Thank you for clearing things up. I think I'll make this my first Mod, but I think I'll wait until I understand OOTP mechanics better before attempting to use it.

Couple of Questions
 

I really like the rosters. Very complete. I have two questions. Why did you decide to have all players be 26 years old? The second is a question on the KC Royals. Why P Jeff Suppan over P Steve Busby?

I know Busby tore a rotar cuff and had a short career, but he was more of a Royal and a better pitcher than Suppan. Just curious about your thinking. I may add Busby.

I originally had players at the average age of the six seasons I chose, but I screwed up the formula in my database and I didn't want to recalculate everyone's age, so I just made everyone 26 (which was the average peak age for everyone anyway). There was an old set on the forums, and I can't remember who made it, where the longer ago a player played the older he was (like Ty Cobb was 42 and Albert Pujols was 18), and I might make a version of this set like that because it's a cool concept.

I made no decisions on who is on the active roster vs. the reserve roster. The AI does that. With injuries on, I can't turn off the AI or else they can't adjust with injuries. Jeff Suppan is on the Royal's reserve roster, so take over the Royals and put him in there! That's the fun of the set!

EDIT: I misunderstood your question. Steve Busby didn't make the set because he didn't play in six qualifying seasons. He only pitched enough to qualify in 1973, 74, 75, and 79. Suppan is a Royal because he pitched more games there than any other one team.
