Rosenblatt Rockets - College World Series F2P theme team!
 

The criteria for this team is that EVERY player on this team has competed at least once in the College World Series. And I'm not talking about a winning a conference or division or competing in a regional - I'm talking about setting foot in Omaha among the 8 teams that make it each year and trying to hoist the trophy for their school. They didn't have to advance or win the championship, just had to make it to Omaha.


This one has taken some downtime to research, but I finally got my ducks in a row and got better at searching the Internet. This project is a passion of mine, since I had lived in Omaha for 10 years and some of those names particularly in the early 2000's bring back the memories.


The team is named the Rockets because I will eventually be adding Roger Clemens, the Rocket himself who helped lead the Longhorns to a CWS victory back in 1983. Anyway, here is the current roster and their NCAA information -

Yeah Bonds would be a miracle. Heck I'd easily settle for Albert Belle, who made it with LSU. One thing that disappointed me a little bit putting together this team was the lack of diamond historical hitters on the AH - guys like Belle, Troy Glaus, Berkman, Garciaparra and Jeff Kent are virtual unicorns. Hoping the market gets stimulated as the year goes on.

Finished a respectable 84-78 in bronze but missed the postseason. Just added Todd Helton to the squad though!

Bad news - team is struggling this year with a 47-59 record thus far.

In honor of the Vanderbilt CWS win last night, adding CF Kevin McReynolds (Arkansas) to the team; Jackie Bradley Jr. will be the 4th OF now.

I just spotted Bregman for 6000pp and I could not pass that up! I don't have a regular position for him to play so he is going to be a super-sub, rotating between 2B/3B/SS/LF!

Last season the team made it to game 7 of the World Series and lost and it is having a hangover effect. Currently in Gold and in danger of relegation. The offense is having a horrid year. Adding Michael Conforto to help the outfield and hopefully he'll help; he'll replace Jackie Bradley Jr who doesn't have the bat to survive in gold.

Roger Clemens just had the second perfect game of his career. I know this is Silver league, but still!

And I decided to put the 5000PP from the perfect game to good use and put it toward 96 OVR USC starter Mark Prior. Need him for the playoff push.

Finished at .500 in silver. The bullpen is letting some games get awa, upgrading there with Gerrit Cole and Jeff Brantley.

At long last, after saving a lot of PP, our primary target the Sun Devil himself 97 LF Barry Bonds has finally been acquired. Expecting a major jolt to the offense.

The rotation just got a lot sturdier with the addition of Stanford ace Mike Mussina! I saved and splurged and got the 96OVR one.

In honor of LSU just beating Alabama (okay, it was kind of coincidence), the Rockets have added LSU Tigers alum Closer Brian Wilson, who checks in at the closer role with a 98 Overall! Hoping for more close wins and playoff berths.

In year 2054, the Rockets finally broke through and won their first OOTP World Series, prevailing over the Nomadic Brigands 4 games to 1 in the Gold G328 league. The team was ecstatic after the win and so happy they persevered and now finally has a championship badge to call their own.

Buster Posey, who hit 10 RBI in the post-season, was named MVP of the World Series. He caught a Rockets staff that was on a real roll in the post-season, as Clemens, Mussina and Prior seemed to tally one quality start after the next.

The team also racked up a nice share of regular season hardware as well. Bonds won a Silver Slugger award, tallying 95 RBI's and 4.9 WAR. CF McReynolds, RF Vukovich and 1B Helton all won gold gloves at their respective positions. Mussina had an incredible season, leading the whole league with 2.30 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 5.9 WAR. Closer Brian Wilson was also a key contributor, tallying 34 saves and a sublime 1.02 ERA during the regular season.

Damn this gold decal looks good!

1994 College World Series phenom Nomar Garciaparra has been added to the team. Need more pop in the lineup and nicely Peak Garciaparra can play SS, 3B and 1B!

Another upgrade ... Rafael Palmeiro 1B/DH has been upgraded for his fellow college teammate lefty slugger Will Clark! Team is looking pretty good TBH, but the pitching holds me back at Diamond/Perfect.

I just keep upgrading :). Added Texas great Huston Street to bolster the bullpen.

Mussina pitched a 5k PP Perfect game this week!
