Background Info:
In May of 2016 Las Vegas was hit by a scandal when sources leaked details regarding the new Vegas Sports Complex, a caper involving kickbacks and drug traffickers. It all sounded familiar too the owners of the Quebec Nordiques, who dropped from expansion talks a year earlier opting to buy the failing Panthers franchise. This left Seattle as the only city left, but they had failed to file paperwork on time for a June 2016 date. The league agreed to grant the city a franchise for the 2017-18 Season if the league could get another ownership group in place for a Central Division team. Curiously enough only one such group applied late in 2016, a group of businessmen from Saskatoon.The league didn't take the application seriously until two months later when nobody else applied,they reluctantly accepted the proposal despite the tiny market. An expansion draft was scheduled for a week after the playoffs, the two new teams were the Seattle Emeralds and the Saskatchewan Wheat.
