Listen to PBP
Is there any way to listen to the game instead of just having PBP text? Or a way to dump the PBP text for only some games instead of all games? I want to use a text to speech utility to turn the PBP into MP3 files that I can listen to instead of having to sit and read the text. Is there any known way of doing this?

TTS is an option in the pregame setup. It might be under Game Sounds (or some such thing).

Actually, you can enable it through the Preferences Menu. Click on the Misc tab.

Oh, sweet, awesome!
That's solution 1. Solution 2 has to get me an MP3 to listen to in the car... I think I could just use game reports though. |
My ears are burning. Either someone's talking about me, or I just tried to listen to text-to-speech on OOTP 14.

What operating system are you using? TTS works OK with Windows 8. Not so much with Windows 7. Not at all with anything else.

It also slowed the little moving ball down so that it moves slightly and then jumps to the final position, which annoyed me. I mean, I was listening to the PBP instead of reading it so I could watch the rest of the screen. I ended up having to watch the PBP to figure out what she was saying and that pretty much ended it for me. But there is no way to dump the PBP text? See, I get to the end of the game and it's just too much info. I like the way the PBP mode gives it to you one at-bat at a time, and being able to listen to it would help me to process it better, I think. One thing happening at a time, you know? |
Is it using Windows text-to-speech add on to do this? Are there setting I can play with there?

Yes, it relies on the TTS feature in the Windows OS. Microsoft improved TTS in Windows 8, enough that it's not bad at all. I read an article the other day that said Microsoft might be making Windows 8 free sometime soon. The TTS feature is definitely a big improvement over Windows 7.

I'm going to try making it slower and see if that makes it clearer. If not then I'll probably not bother with it.
|
It didn't help, unfortunately, but I'm glad I tried it out. I like the feature is there because as TTS tech gets better it will get where it needs to go.
|
Exactly. It's not bad in W8. At least, I can tolerate it. ;)

Anybody able to get Text to Speech working on a Mac?
|
No, TTS in the game is not Mac-enabled.

Somebody ban this POS!!

I have used the TTS with WIn 10 and it is passable. It is also reliant on what the programming instructs it to say. Some of this could work much better with a little attention. EX: played 2009 WS with Hideki Matsui. Hideki was pronounced well, but Matsui was almost unrecognizable. It needs work and a bit of patience on the users part.
