Modified PbP File for TTS Feature

UPDATED FOR OOTP16

Slight changes to the PbP file to improve it for use with the TTS feature. Extract the file and use it to replace your existing English.xml file (in the "text" folder).

The TTS feature works better with Windows 8 (since Microsoft improved TTS for W8). Also, I have listed a number of issues for Andreas to address, if and when he ever has time. :^) This is the list:

1. Batting Average: Whenever the batting average is given in the PbP, the narrator reads it as a decimal: "he's hitting point three one five." This is the most glaring unresolved issue at present.

2. Win-Loss Record: During the game intro, the narrator reads the team's win-loss record like this: "a record of 105 to 56". The record versus the opponent is: "11 to 6" versus Cincinnati this year". During the intro of a pitcher, the narrator does the same thing with a pitcher's win-loss record: "a record of 14 to 12". SOLUTION: Could the "-" in the hardcoded PbP (in just these instances) be replaced with the word "and"?

3. Attendance: During the game intro, the attendance figure is read like this: "one seven three zero eight" (for 17,308). I personally would like to see the game intros and pitcher intros abbreviated (and the attendance figure could be dropped).

4. Game Score: During a shutout, if the score is mentioned, this happens: "The Cardinals lead the Dodgers, two to zero". The "0" is called "zero" instead of "nothing."

5. 0-fer: The same thing occurs when the hardcoded text reads "0 for 2" or "0 for 3" etc. Instead of "oh for 2" we hear "zero for 2."

6. Pitch Count: The hyphen in pitch counts ("1-2 pitch" or "3-1 pitch" etc.) is pronounced as the word "to." In this case, the hyphen should be ignored. We want the TTS narrator to say: "one two pitch" or "three one pitch".

7. St. Louis: The TTS narrator reads "St. Louis" as "Street Louis." I added "St." to the pronunciation file. But the TTS narrator reads the period as the end of a sentence. "Saint. Louis." I noticed also that "1st" is sometimes read as "one street" instead of "first."

Questions

In love with the concept -- at 74yrs. eyesight on the decline.
When I became aware of the feature -- I did some research, found several "free" downloads claiming better results --- is there any great improvement in quality, using these alternatives as opposed to what comes with my computer and what OOTP offers ? --- I have Vista. (It does work on my computer -- with Vista now)
Can I change to another voice on my computer as it is now ?
How do I enter your PBP changes ? (Computer moron -- still use my Abacus)
Sorry/Wordy/Thanks
Gil

Do you mean other voices/narrators from other vendors (non-Microsoft)? Yes, you can purchase all kinds of them. Except for one or two, I think Microsoft David (in Windows 8) is the best. (Just my opinion.) I didn't know Vista had TTS.

Download the zip file (linked above).
Open it and extract the modified English.xml file.
Copy the modified English.xml file.
Go to your "text" folder (wherever OOTP15 is installed on your hard drive).
Paste the modified English.xml file into that folder. It will overwrite your old file.

NOTE: Each time you install a new OOTP15 patch, it'll overwrite the modified English.xml file. So, hang on to the modified English.xml file. You'll have to copy and paste it again into the "text" folder after each patch.

In case anyone wants the latest (unmodified) english.xml file, here it is:

It'll be included in the next patch, whenever that may be.

Thank You for the update it is appreciated...now the only glaring item is when they try to pronounce RHP and LHP. It would be great if someone could change it to say right handed pitcher and left handed pitcher.

Are you using IVONA voices chicago? My lexicon file should fix the RHP/LHP issue.

No problem, the zip file is in this link:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...lish-ivona.rar

In Windows 7 that file needs to go in (YourName)>AppData>Roaming>IVONA 2 Voice. That folder is hidden by default. Not sure if this is the same for Windows 8, pstrickert will know.
