I'm doing some rather tedious prep work for a planned universe. This entails creating a census of the fighters in my database. I have a mega database with over 21,000 separate fighter files. This includes multiple different ratings for individuals. Since my universe will involve teams and locales I need to gather birthplace and residency information, hence the census. The census, when completed should provide a fairly complete record of historical fighters that have been created for the game. My mega db includes all of the fighters in Mike's universe since he shared his database with the forum. As I'm working on my list I'm culling duplicates and also separating the fictional TC's that Mike included in his database. Other than my own 4 F's I only plan to use fictional fighters in limited special circunstances. I am recording the names of Mike's fictional TCs, saving a copy of their filers, and converting all of his fictional TC's with historical TC's that I'm locating in Boxrec. While I plug away at my census project I'll be adding a slew of historical TC's to the forum in this thread.

I'll begin with a fighter with the greatest name I've ever seen: Papa Wood Alcohol. One recorded bout in boxrec from a 1922 young Stribling undercard. No weight is given for him of for his opponent Kid Dynamite but I'll assume that they are feathers like the rest of the undercard. Stribling was a young growing welter/middleweight at this time of his career.

I'm a big fan of adding "real-fighter" TC's into the game. made a whole s#*tload of them for my HW universe, but since I suck at rating guys, I just used the TC templates w/o any real hope of keeping historical accuracy.

Also a big fan of obscure TC's w/ cool names - just to fill out the universe.

I'm not guaranteeing "historical accuracy" either since I'm using the templates with a tweak or two, but I'm looking for cool names and trying for a mix of locations. Since most of the TC candidates in box rec have only a smattering of fights the templates come in handy since most of these guys have losing records against really poor competition. I am trying to verify the existence of guys I'm not finding in boxrec in another record source before converting the file into a "real" fighter.

As far as names go, I don't know if I'll ever beat Pappa Wood Alcohol. Couldn't resisit adding him even though I didn't have a weight for him or for his opponent.

If I find interesting looking guys that are better than the TC templates, solid one rated guys, I'm keeping a record of their name and boxrec info and will spend a little more time creating them at a later point. Right now I'm trying to rush, but the pace of the census is slow. The TC conversion is a bit of a break from the tedium of my census and database clean-up work. Hope to finish the complete project around the time that the new game is released since the new group and note features should simplify work with the planned universe.
