SD logo a swastika? Gimme a break!
Ok, we know we try to avoid politics here, but this is beyond stupid! Time for people to retrain their one track mind and remember "It kinda looks like a swastika....but it ISN'T!"
So underwear gets all bunched because of something that LOOKS like yada, yada, yada.:tt2::glare::ugly: https://ftw.usatoday.com/2020/02/pad...ika-design-mlb |
Swastika or not, that is one ugly damn logo.
I too think the focus should have been on how ugly it was rather than any imaginary symbol it might or might not resemble.
Never noticed it still kind of dont, think I'm in a minority anyway that being I dont like the Padres brown uniforms, to be honest never have.
The Padres lost me when they switched to blue uniforms years ago. Haven't cared for them since.
I have to admit. I was prepared to click on that link and not see it. But damn, it caught me almost instantly from that angle. With the yellow it does stand out pretty well.
Once it's been pointed out, it's easy to see. I'd like to think no-one thinks the Padres were doing it on purpose :p:laugh:
Did the world run out of actual **** that needs to be fixed? They have had that logo for how many decades? Superimposing the SD on the friar is terrible design anyway; the caps should be burned for that reason already...
A bit of "once you see it...", eh? This is more a case of typical Padre planning than actual seig-heiling, methinks. Brings a new meaning to brownshirts, though, I suppose!
It may not have meant to look like a swastika, but SD is probably taking a long range view of the situation. Once it got out that one could see a nazi symbol in the logo, you could potentially see fascist groups adopting the hat for themselves. They have done such things in the past. Padres are probably just being pro active. Better safe than sorry.

Attachment 672919 A couple of "how" questions come to mind: 1) First of all, how does anybody get paid for designing an ugly, ugly logo like that? 2) Secondly, how is a person so obtuse as to not pick up on the resulting swastika when parts of the "SD" are superimposed with portions of the swinging friar? A third question: Was it deliberate? |

The chances of this happening unfortunately are 100 % |
Why those two logos were combined in the first place is the real problem. Who looked at it and said "yeah, do it!"?
I dont agree at all, Cobra. If that's your thinking, referring to fascist groups adopting the hat for their own, then you have to get rid of all the MLB and NFL teams who were adopted by gangs. Raiders, A's, Yankees, etc.

So let's weigh the pluses and minuses here. Keep an ugly, temporary logo that no one seems to like except potentially nazis just for the principle of the thing or,......... go ahead and x it out now since it will potentially be an embarrassment for the franchise down the road. I get where you are coming from because we have a world where people are just jumping to find something trivial to get offended over. But some battles aren't worth it. In the end, some losses are victories and some wins are defeats. |
Yeah, I understand, Cobra. I totally get your point. I pose no argument. I guess we can agree to disagree 'cause I just ask where does it all end? I kinda look at it like this...there are SO many foods that aren't good for you because of one ingredient or another. But honestly, you could probably go to a huge grocery store and find something wrong with just about every single item in the store. Then what? You quit eating?

Really - this is an issue . What has it been 75 years ?
San Diego needs to remove the "Padre" from the logo -- change the location -- or not worry about others want to see in the logo . |
