Some College Ballparks

Inspired by the great content creators on here, I have tried my hand at creating 3D Stadiums.

I play using Colleges as my basis for my league and have created some stadiums for this use. I thought others might be interested.

I have approached the creation in a different way then others by using satellite images as the basis for the ground textures. This is different, but I believe it provides a variety while I play out games

Installation should be as easy as placing the folders into your models folder. There is a .prk file provided for each stadium which includes park factors if utilized.

All can be downloaded at: http://www.mediafire.com/folder/st69...lege_Ballparks

Welcome to the club. I like the idea of using satellite images for the fields and the stands - I started using them as the basis for my Canadian parks a couple weeks ago.

Nice job on these, these are perfect for my World of College Baseball!

College ball doesn't get enough love in OOTP so it's nice to see these.

jparker2112 01-30-2019 08:51 AM

Any chance you can do Sunken Diamond at Stanford???

Ty Cobb 01-30-2019 09:45 AM

Getting a TOS violation

on Texas Tech. Not due to my end as far as I know, as I was able to add another file to my media fire dl's with no trouble.

These parks look like a fine addition to our library! Thanks so much for your tie and effort on these.

I am not able to replicate the issue. I will work on it.

These are great. Been wanting some college stadiums for a long time, Thanks! Any chance you could get to Founders Park (University of South Carolina) at some point?

I think the use of the satellite images works well here. good job!

Dr. P.R. Park III 01-31-2019 11:25 AM

Has anybody been able to successfully install these? I've thrown the uncompressed directory into the /Models folder and when importing in-game select the "Import Data From File" option like with all of Silvam and eriqjaffe's .PRK files.

However when I do that with any of these college stadiums, the 3D model reverts to the standard in-game 3D model and just updates the park factors. How do we get the actual 3d model in addition to the factors to import in the .PRK file? When comparing your model directories to others, they seem to be missing a few files. Any ideas?

Is it the .prk file that is messed up or the 3d model? Are you able to direct the program to use the model through the "Picture and Coordinates" tab? I tried to mimic Silvam and eriqjaffe's methods, but could have easily messed it up.

One note, I didn't include any 2d day/night pictures or a diagram with these parks, so those will be default.

dishnet34 01-31-2019 04:23 PM

If you're taking requests, Hyames Field at Western Michigan University would be an interesting one to tackle. It was the home of the first two College World Series back in 1947 and 1948.

My apologies, you're right, you have to manually go to the 3D Model tab and select the 3d object file instead of just importing the .prk file. Great work and keep it up.

I need to figure out why that is happening, because that is not what is intended. I will keep working on it.

Thanks.

This is the best thread on this whole site

The quality of these fields are awesome, a work of art. I'd love to help out and create college parks too, how long does it take, what 3d info from the help me thread do I need to focus on?

Could anyone give me an alternate link on Dan Law Field? I get a TOS violation every time I try to DL it. Yet...I've had no trouble downloading others since.

I heavily watched Silvam's tutorial videos. He does an incredible job of going through some of the nuances of SketchUp, and some tips and tricks. I do not have a huge amount of skills, but after the videos it is much easier than I thought they would.

I use GIMP a lot also to create and modify textures. GIMP is free and does a pretty good job for me.

I am using a program called SBuilderX to capture the satellite images. It was created to assist in creating ground textures for Flight Simulator X, but works well for this purpose. With this program you can capture images at pretty good resolution (I use level 20). This can be a complicated process, but there are some good videos to explain how it works. Sometimes it also takes using GIMP to make some corrections to the image. For example I have had to get rid of Batting Cages and a couple of lawn mowers in images. Make sure to correct the image before importing into SketchUp.

I also use Google Earth to create a video panorama which I then import into Image Composite Editor (both are free) to create the backdrop image. I had to watch some videos online to learn how to create the backdrop as well.

As far as time to create, I spend more time than necessary finding pictures of the stadium to make sure I get some of the character of each stadium. I try to get the advertisements to be the ones that are actually in the stadium. My goal with this is for someone who has been to the stadium and is a fan of that team to recognize the stadium as they would see it in real life. So finding an image for Doc's BBQ in South Carolina might mean nothing to most people, but to some one who goes to South Carolina Games they will recognize it on the dugout. Or my favorite, an advertisement for Attorney Davis Smith, the Gorilla Lawyer, at Texas Tech. I am still mad that I couldn't find the actual ad that used on the fence. Sometimes this takes watching videos of games played at the stadium which can take some time.

For the actual building of the model, the bigger the ballpark the longer it takes. Also, the more interesting things in the view of the player the longer it takes. I initially spent too much time building the exterior of the park that very few people will see because most of it was behind the plate. I would say that a small park can take about 1-2 hours, but some of the larger ones have taken as much as 3-5 hours of direct work. This includes finding the images for advertisements. I am assuming that the better I get at this the less time it will take.

All in all, you should try it out. It is not as hard as I thought it would be. I would also say that there is no one way to create a model. Find what works best for you and go with it. This community has built so many great content that has improved OOTP and has increased my enjoyment of the game over the years. I have seen some of the things that were once created by individuals that are now standard in the game. Maybe something that you work hard at today will be integrated by Markus and the team to a standard feature in the future? It might be in OOTP30, but you can be a trailblazer.

Robo 02-01-2019 11:57 AM

That is awesome! Thanks for doing that!

I am familiar with FS, having spent countless hours playing FS2004 and adding 3D warehouse buildings into sceneries using Model Converter X. Never messed with FSX much because the computer I built was not up to snuff running that program without serious stutters and freezes, but it ran FS9 like a champ, as that is what I built it for. The only problems I would have with that was textures not being sized properly and causing the sim to crash. I'd end up going through all the textures and either deleting or resizing them to work in the sim. I built some pretty neat downtowns of Minneapolis and a few others.
Then I thought I'd try and build a few buildings in sketchup myself to place that hadn't been made and that was an effort in futility on my part.
My attempts to work with GIMP haven't been very fruitful either, and I really don't use it when I create jerseys on my HS feeder league project, instead I have had much more ease of use using real world paint.
I'm going to sit down and watch that tutorial and see if I can get the gist of this stadium building process. It would be great for the community here if a few more people could add to these projects like you are now.
I'd really like to build a few HS and college generic type parks that feature the geography and scenery of the area they are located.
More than anything, thanks for your response and a double thanks for sharing your work!

Is this just with Tech or with others as well?

If it is just with Tech then it is because Texas Tech is a rubbish school and not worthy of being located in the same breath of other Big 12 schools. :D

Just kidding, I have re-uploaded a new file. Let me know if this one works.

Could I make a sincere request for my beloved Minnesota Golden Gophers and Siebert Field?

I have removed the download link for Texas Tech from the original post until I can figure it out. If you want to pm me your email address, I can send the file directly to you. I am not sure why only this one is getting the error, but we will fix it and Red Raider fans everywhere will be able to enjoy it soon enough.

I think I have corrected the Texas Tech problem that people were having. I have updated the link. If anyone continues to have a problem with this one, please let me know
