Babe Ruth, Bob Lemon, "Double Duty" Radcliffe and others...

How does the game (I am using OOTP16) in historical mode deal with...

Babe Ruth...who started out as a tremendous SP?

Bob Lemon...who played multiple times in the OF during his SP career...and was a pretty good hitter?

"Double Duty" Radcliffe...of Negro League fame who would pitch one game of a DH and catch the other?

Any Other Player...who would fit the mold of those above?

Players do not (via the AI) pitch and play other positions at the same time but you can set the lineups/rotations by hand to do so. In the off-season players can switch between pitching and the other positions and often do.

If you are playing historical Babe Ruth will come in as a SP then eventually in 1920 become a RF. Double Duty Radcliffe is a C. If you use 1 yr recalc, players that played many positions like Wee Willie Keeler will lose their rating at one position but gain a rating at something else for that season. Many players in early baseball will be like this. Rick Ankiel will eventually become a OF etc. Now you can have them inported with fielding for entire career and stamina for entire career and several players will either hit or pitch unless you manually change them. In my ABF league Babe Ruth with neutralized stats was a SP until I changed him to a OF at age 31.

Game,

What if you use the 5 year recalculate? Then what happens?

I think it matters more if you use entire career, 3 yr avg or imported season for defense. vs recalc preferences. Been awhile since i played straight historical.

OUCH 99 HRs in one season 199 RBIs to boot. On top of that 1100 plus HRs career

Ruth was born in 1895. How can he be 19 in 1920?

OK then why worry about anything. The game will deal with as needed. Right?

As The Game was saying sometimes OOTP leaves Ruth as a pitcher depending on settings and the player may not want that. If you have recalc on, he'll move to the outfield when he should, but if you don't...Who knows? Also I think Swede_06 was doing straight historical, but maybe he can confirm that. There are a lot of settings and sometimes things will work the way they did and sometimes they won't. It helps to fumble a lot with settings and see what does what.

I Imported him as a rookie in 1920. It is a fictional league with some real players.
