My Question is I have like a black/grey player instead of the player picture with the helmet and such. Is that because there is no player mod for that specific player or is it because the 3d is turned off type thing?

Facegen is off by default. To enable it, go to Settings-Facegen on the start screen (exit and restart after doing that), then, once you've done that and loaded a game, enable it in File-Setup/Options-Facegen Settings. You get the black silhouette when facegen is off and there's no default jersey-back graphic for the team.
