Is there ever...
Is there ever a historical simulation in which Ruth, Bonds or Aaron don't hit 500+ HR's? That Henderson doesn't steal 900+ bases? That Ryan doesn't strike out 4000+ batters? That Cobb and Wagner don't hit .333+? How does this game take into consideration Babe Ruth facing Randy Johnson or a 2000's batter facing a 1900's pitcher?

First off, yes you can get flops at times. I've had Hank Aaron be no better than a fourth OFer, for example. In my favorite replay, I had Smokey Burgess and Ed Bailey be the top 2 home run hitters of all time while leading the Cubs and Reds to a decade worth of pennant battles.
The results of every batter/pitcher confrontation starts with the overall settings of your replay. By that I mean, if you have chosen to have the historical settings for each season imported, a Ruth/Johnson confrontation set in 1964 will resemble a Koufax/Killebrew battle. If it is set in 1916, it will resemble a Home Run Baker/young pitcher Babe Ruth confrontation. Similarly, for your last question, Pud Galvin versus Josh Hamilton would depend on the historic year of the confrontation. |
Does it ever stop
I have read a lot of the forum before ordering OOTP16, but am still amazed at the complexity of the game. Like one of the bigger posters said, "this game is a commitment". I almost feel guilty calling it a game.

In OOTP I had to stop playing historical "real" leagues because Joe DiMaggio would be a backup OF in Philadelphia or Mickey Mantle was a 3B in St. Louis. Once I made the transition to fictional leagues the games became real to me. No going back now. I have my own Koufax, Bonds, Mantle and Trout in different times places and run scoring environments. The beauty of OOTP is the scope of its ability. There is no other game that has the combination of accuracy customizability and value. Oh, did I mention, I like this game.:o |
