Salary cap does not adjust with financials

I created a fictional league, based on 1987 financials and modifiers, and selected the option to Import adjusted financial settings each year.

I eliminated the luxury tax, replacing it with a salary cap of $14,000,000, which would have been low but reasonable at the time (this was when Steinbrenner publicly stated he would never, ever pay any player more than $2 mil a year. Ah, the days of collusion.)

I then simulated 15 seasons, and when I looked at the results, I noticed that no player was ever offered an extension. Every player would go through automatic renewals, arbitration, and then every player would become a free agent. They would sign with someone else, and then when that contract was up they'd move on again. This is because the salary cap never changed, so while salaries and revenues had moved on to more modern amounts, the salary cap remained the ridiculously low $14,000,000.

This may not be a bug, since there is no salary cap in the major leagues I assume there's no information in the database for the program to use to adjust it, but perhaps some kind of multiplier based on another key financial could be used, like the salary of an average player, or average media contract value. I know it can be manually done each year, but I'm looking to do decades-long sims overnight to create history.

dcd,

Hi, and sorry it's taken so long to get to your thread.

Unfortunately, your synopsis is about right . . . the salary cap does not automatically adjust over time in this version of OOTP. :(

However, it's a good idea to consider for the future. May I suggest posting about it in the Suggestions forum?

Meanwhile, I'm going to close this thread down, since there is no technical support issue here.

Thanks very much!

Steve
