82OVR Suzuki... what the heck?

I finally saw an 82OVR Ichiro Suzuki in the Auction House today. Imagine my surprise when I saw the price listed at 16k with a buyout of 17k. I'm at a loss to figure out why this card is priced that way. Is it

- small sample size?
- sentimental desires?
- people completing their Seattle collections?
- someone wanting a good defender who can hit?

I've actually got Suzuki on one of my teams, and though it might be nice if he were on another one, there's no way I'd spend that kind of PP on him.

Is this merely an example of someone trying to flip a card that almost never shows up on the AH? Or is there something else at work here that I'm oblivious to?

there are rewards for "collections" now. but we don't know what the rewards or are how they will work. therefore certain cards are going to be more valuable (for now) then their actual value as a game piece.

there is a belief that if you collect all the Ichiro cards there will be a reward and you will get a special Ichiro card.

i am not sure I believe this but I have heard others saying it.

combine the rarity of that card with the fact that he is a beloved player who also has a good card.

then toss in the lack of info on how collections will work and you have the perfect mix for speculation.

personally, I am speculating in a different area. and waiting for the price to come down on the gold and the silver ichiro.
