The Rival League
 

After listening to The Pro Hockey Alumni Podcast were Blaine Stoughton & Norm Beaudin talking about the good old WHA, it got me thinking why not do a Rival League in FHM6.

Season 1
1972-73 Season. The NHL & WHA are going to play an interlocking schedule, there will be an expansion draft. 12 teams were added to the league.
Only one player from the WHA teams made the All-Star team.

Season 2: 1973-74 Season

Expansion/Relocation: Ottawa Nationals moved to become the Toronto Toros & Philadelphia Blazers moved west to Vancouver keeping the Blazers' nickname.

Side Note: I found that in the playoffs some teams played 1, 3, 5, 7 & 8 games, it was because the game switched the quarterfinals from 7 to 1 game.

Since you can't move whole teams from one league to another, it must've been a hassle to painstakingly create the teams and move them over, one player at a time...

Season 4 - 1975-76
Expansion: None
Relocation: None


The New York Raiders are in danger of reloacating, the owners (Kevin Cumming) wants the city of New York to pay to buildt a new arena or else they will move out of the Big Apple.
The Big Apple already has 2 hockey teams Rangers & Islanders, a statement from the city states that they will not pay for a new arena unless the owner comes up with 51% of the needed money.
The Raiders in the 4 years they have been playing in the Rival League they have not been on the playoffs and the avg attend. has been dropping every year.

The owner of the Raiders have given up hope for a new arena & has put his team up for sale. Mr. Cummings is hoping for a local buyer to purchase the team, we will see.

The 7-year cruse has been broken.
Add some extra stats I thought u would enjoy.

It was a terrible year for Toronto fans as Toros and Leaf finish dead last in their conference.

The Rival League had it's first worst to first team as the Toros finish last last season and the won the Stanley Cup in 1979-80.
