Rain delay, bottom of the 4th, Tigers leading 3-2. Coming down pretty hard.

Did anyone notice when Davis was hit by the pitch that the ball deflected down and hit the Baltimore catcher in the cup.
Ouch! |
Missed that - Davis shaking his hand got my attention.
Ouch is right. Bless whomever invented the cup, eh? The Baltimore guy hit two batters and threw a wild pitch in the same inning. The cold and damp is making it hard to squeeze that ball. Miserable playing weather. |
They're taking the tarp off the field and grooming the mound. We'll be underway again in a few! :D
|
Rajai Davis, 3-run HR to start the game off again - Tigers up 6-2! :D

No laughing matter even with a cup. My brother had exactly that happen and the cup had shifted just right to have an edge part way on one testicle. He didn't lose the testicle but it was an ugly, ugly scene that included surgery. |
Back-to-back HR thanks to Hunter! 7-2, Cats. :D

Miggy gets his 2,000th career hit - and appropriately, it's a 2-run HR!
Congrats, Miggy! |
Another hit for Hunter! Don't leave them all on the field today boys.

Chamberlain is doing his best to give the game to the Birds - he's given up a bushel of hits and 2 runs, and there's only one out.

Tigers 10, Orioles 4, final.
Summary to follow in a bit. |

Tigers 10, Orioles 4. [Boxscore]
Summary: Tigers bats heat up a cold and damp day. Pitching: For the most part, the Cats' arms did a terrific job. Here's how they fared: Sanchez started the game, and in his first time pitching to MLB-caliber batters since mid-March, he did a decent job, holding the Birds to 2 runs on 2 hits (1 double) and 3 walks over 4 innings (69 pitches, 44 strikes) while whiffing 3. After the 34-minute rain delay in the bottom of the 4th, Ausmus decided not to trot Sanchez back out, opting instead to go to Smyly. Smyly tossed an impressive outing, going 3 innings and giving up just 1 hit and a walk, punching out 3. He notched his 1st win of the season. Krol took over in the 8th and performed brilliantly, striking out 1. Chamberlain, on the other hand, was simply abysmal as he worked the 9th, surrendering 2 runs on 4 hits (1 triple). I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Offense: The Boys were scorching hot despite the miserable weather, churning out 18 hits, drawing 1 walk, and had 3 batters hit by pitches. Yes, 3. Folks are gonna be black and blue in the morning. They stranded 8 on 4-11 hitting with RISP. Anyway, here's who did what: Kinsler: 2-5 (.357), RS (2), RBI (3). - RBI single in the 2nd; Single and RS in the 6th. Hunter: 3-4 (.250), HR (1), HBP (1), 2 RS (2), RBI (1). - HBP in the 2nd; Solo HR to LF in the 4th; Single in the 6th; single and RS in the 8th. [Video of HR] Miggy: 4-5 (.417), HR (1), RS (1), 3 RBI (3). - Single in the 1st; Single in the 4th; RBI single in the 6th; 2-run HR to LF in the 8th (see milestone note). [Video of milestone/HR] (Milestone note: 2,000 career hit.) Martinez: 1-5 (.231), SB (1), GIDP (1). - Grounded into FC and SB in the 4th; GIDP in the 6th; Single in the 8th. Jackson: 3-5 (.417), 2B (2) RS (3). - Double and RS in the 2nd; Single and thrown out at second attempting to stretch in the 3rd; Single in the 8th. Avila: 0-4 (.125), BB (4). - Walk and RS in the 2nd. Castellanos: 2-3 (.400), 2B (1), HBP (1), RS (1), RBI (1). - RBI double in the 2nd, thrown out at home attempting to advance on Kinsler single (Disputed note); Single and RS in the 4th; HBP in the 5th. (Disputed note: I watched the play on TV, he was not out at home as the play-by-play officially states. He was rounding Third with his head down and didn't catch Dave Clark's (3B coach) stop sign. Attempting to return to 3B, he was tagged out there, not at home. [Video of play]) Romine: 1-4 (.250), RS (1). - Bunt single and RS in the 4th. Davis: 1-3 (.167), HR (1), HBP (1), 2 RS (2), 3 RBI (3). - HBP and RS (via wild pitch) in the 2nd; 3-run HR to LF in the 4th. [Video of HR] Defense: Errors, 1: Romine, 1 (1), catching in the 5th inning. Double plays: 1: 3-6-3 (Cabrera-Romine-Cabrera), 6th inning. Next game: Saturday, April 5th: Baltimore (1-3, 0-1 Away) @ Detroit (3-0, 3-0 Home), 1:08 Eastern. Starting pitchers: Bud Norris vs Rick Porcello. - Baltimore TV: MASN, WJZ. Radio: 1090 WBAL, Orioles Radio Net. - Detroit TV: FS-D. Radio: 97.1 The Ticket. |
