1875 - World Series Game 1
Lineups:
The first game versus Cleveland was influenced by two carefully acting teams, who both didn't want to pick up an early leeway.
The first two innings passed by without any highlights, before a series of field errors and a passed ball, combined with single hits of George Bechtel and an infield hit of Nick Wehman put us 3-0 in the lead and off to a good start.
However, the enthusiasm was quickly gone again, when a single hit of Cleveland's catcher Cap Anson, followed by two doubles of first baseman Jim Brooks and right fielder Willie Bradley, combined with two throwing errors made it 3-3 after the bottom of the fourth inning.
Both teams failed to hit much from there on and it was until the eight inning, when Jim H O'Rourke managed to bat in Nick Wehman with a formidable double at two outs to make it 4-3.
In the bottom of the final inning, Cleveland put of a clutch performance and Vince Herrera started them off with a clean single through the middle. Two more doubles by Juan Ramos and Jim A Devlin finalized the narrow 5-4 win for Cleveland and put them one up in the World Series.
