The ventriloquist's dummy

One of the most painful things about undertaking this project - aside from not being confident in my own writing ability - is the attempt to speak for people with whose voice I am not familiar. I've found that trying to borrow or imitate another person's voice takes a lot of time and some practice. Maybe I ought to know what Kay sounds like, how he speaks, the expressions he likes to use, for the sake of the story. There are, however, problems with that. One is that I would be required to listen to and/or watch Yankee games. I'll pass on that. Another is that it would turn this into something more like work and less like play. But I do want to make this story actually come to life, and the more it resembles real life, I think, the better it'll be. I know I'll enjoy it more, and I'd hope anyone who reads it would enjoy it more, too.
