The Outfield

LF Carl Crawford
Age: 29 Bats: L
Contract: $136,000,000/7 Years
2010 Stats: .307/.356/.495 -- 19 HRs and 90 RBIs (Tampa)
Thoughts: Crawford is the highest paid player on the team and while his slash line and counting stats may not be the most impressive, he is a very good player who will earn most of his value via speed and defense. I expect Crawford to slot into our lineup nicely as a bottom of the order bat.

CF Jacoby Ellsbury
Age: 27 Bats: L
Contract: $2,400,000 (Arbitration)
2010 Stats: .192/.241/.244 -- 0 HRs and 5 RBIs (18 Games-Boston)
Thoughts: Ellsbury is a special player much like Crawford. He's fast and plays good, if not great, defense. Coming off an injury-shortened season, we do not have high expectations for Ellsbury. If he is able to hit above the mendoza line and save a few runs on defense, then he may find himself being inked to an extension.

RF J.D. Drew
Age: 35 Bats: L
Contract: $14,000,000 (Free Agent)
2010 Stats: .255/.341/.452 -- 22 HRs and 68 RBIs (Boston)
Thoughts: J.D. Drew has one of the best eyes in the game. Unfortunately, his age is catching up with him and limiting his contact ability. Despite his struggles with hitting the ball, we will still find a good use for him at the top our order as a potential lead off guy.

RF Mike Cameron
Age: 38 Bats: R
Contract: $7,250,000 (Free Agent)
2010 Stats: .259/.328/.401 -- 4 HRs and 15 RBIs (Boston)
Thoughts: Cameron is not much of a hitter anymore. He battled an injury last year in 2010 and only played in 48 games. He still is a valuable asset defensively and will see his role being limited to a platoon partner and late-innings defensive replacement.

LF Darnell McDonald
Age: 32 Bats: R
Contract: $414,000 (Arbitration)
2010 Stats: .270/.336/.429 -- 9 HRs and 34 RBIs (Boston)
Thoughts: Darnell is a former first-round draft pick by the Baltimore Orioles. He never lived up to that potential though and ended up finding his way into a starting job in Fenway last year after injuries destroyed the starting outfield. There are really no expectations for McDonald this year as he really doesn't do anything well other than collect a paycheck.

On the Farm

The team has a few impressive OF prospects, but ... they really only do one thing well. For some, it's getting on-base, stealing, and playing highlight reel defense. Others, hitting for power. The top OF prospect for the Boston Red Sox is currently battling injury. However, CF Ryan Westmoreland remains a five-tool talent; being able to hit, run and play defense makes Westmoreland extremely valuable to the organization. Look for him to make an impact in 2013.

Also on the farm is LF Josh Reddick. The Triple-A left fielder has a lot of power in his 6'2, 180 pound frame. He'll be spending most of his time in Pawtucket this year, but could be called up if anybody starts to struggle/he breaks out. RF Ryan Kalish is also an option in Triple-A. He had a cup of coffee last year, exhausting his prospect status. However, Kalish is a twenty-three year old lefty and has the one thing Reddick lacks: patience at the plate. While he's not first on the organizational depth chart, Kalish still has the potential to be a respectable starter in the big leagues ala Trot Nixon.
