Alternative History of Major League Baseball

1858: New York Mutuals Take The Field

The Mutual Base Ball Club of New York formed in 1858 and took to the field by playing the 1857 winner of the Battle of Brooklyn in a series that began on July 3rd. With the Mutuals as hosts at Elysian Field the Eckfords suffered a 5-4 loss. The next game was scheduled to be played on July 10th at the Eckford home grounds. Another hard fought contest but in the end the Eckfords prevailed 6-5. The rubber match was scheduled for July 17th at Elysian Field and the Eckfords won 9-6.

The Eckfords enjoyed some time off until they met up with the Atlantics for the Battle of Brooklyn beginning on August 21st at the Atlantics home field. The Atlantics won an exciting 3-2 contest. The next game was held at the Eckfords home field as the borough of Brooklyn celebrated the old revolutionary battle. The Eckfords and their fans were shocked as they lost to the Atlantics 9-5.
