Hope you will enjoy and don't hesitate to comment on special event that happen in those years (as we have real expert here it's a good way to learn about the baseball past history).

The end of 72

Posted 08-01-2011 at 01:28 PM by AESP_pres (A simulation from 1871 to ?)

The teams disparation didn't end after five and the Brooklyn Eckfords won't be back for the 1873 season. With only 5 teams leaving in the league it was necessary to add some new blood. But did the league learned from its experience as second teams were granted in the Baltimore and Philadelphia markets? Also a new team will play at Washington, but as the country capital this is logical to don't give up yet.

Will it stop?

Posted 08-01-2011 at 11:42 AM by AESP_pres (A simulation from 1871 to ?)

11 more days and another team close the book. This time it's a winning team, the Cleveland Forest Citys who were in the run for the league first place with 13 wins in 22 games.

Scott Hastings (Baltimore) is the only team member who was able to find another team for the rest of 1872.

It's not over...

Posted 08-01-2011 at 11:31 AM by AESP_pres (A simulation from 1871 to ?)

This season disaster continue today (10/08) with a fourth team ceasing its operation since may.

This time the victim is Middletown who was a too small market to compete with bigger one like Boston, Philadelphia or New York. Except for John Clapp and Jim O'Rourke none of the players were more than average and the team got 10 wins in 24 games.

Eddie Booth (Brooklyn, Atlantics) is the only team member who will continue the season with a new club.

Too big too fast?

Posted 08-01-2011 at 11:14 AM by AESP_pres (A simulation from 1871 to ?)

It's the only question coming to the mind today when we see a third team closing its book this season. Another founding member of the league (Troy, Haymakers) struggling with financial difficulties disapear today (07/24).

The Haymakers in two seasons were unable to reach a winning record (23 wins - 31 losses - .426) wich didn't help to bring in the crowd to the stand.

Most of the team members were able to secure a new jobs.

Doug Allison (Brooklyn, Eckfords)...
