After a decade in San Jose, the Missions have announced a move to a new ballpark in downtown Oakland, California called Oracle Stadium. The Missions had been played in aging Morris Field since joining MLB in 1995.

The team will be named the Oakland Oaks after the major league club that played there from 1947-1958 before moving to Kansas City to become the Royals.

Like the Missions, that team never made the playoffs prior to it's move away from Oakland, now the city inherits a club 48 years later that has the same doomed history as their predecessors.

Will the Oaks be like the Beavers and win a World Series in their first year in a new city? The local faithful hope so, while also realizing that the name change and move without leaving the market they're in should bolster fan interest rather than diminish it.

    Interesting read.

So, teams don't carry their history with them when they move? Like, for example, the Texas Rangers used to be the Washington Senators (II), so they have the trademark on the name. That's why the Expos went with the Nationals.
