By the end of 75 it was evident that many serious problems were created by the way the league works. Indeed the unstability was created by the low entry fee for a franchise (less than 50$) wich brought the schedule problem since teams folded during the season.

So in the beginning of 76 William Hulbert one of the Chicago franchise administrator called a meeting in Louisville Kentucky to work on a new league. It was decided to give more power to the league autority and to allow teams in exclusive territories in large cities only.

The february 2 the National League is founded.

6 teams from the National Association
Boston (Red Caps)
Chicago (White Stockings)
Hartford (Dark Blues)
New York (Mutuals)
Philadelphia (Athletics)
St. Louis (Brown Stockings)

and 2 new clubs
Louisville (Grays)
Cincinnati (Reds)

Morgan Bulkeley the owner of the Hartford club is name President of the new league.

The National Association didn't survive.
