Last Week (4-2): 1-2 vs. LAD, 3-0 vs. PHI

  • 9/1: PIT 4, LAD 11 - Burnett was roughed up (2 IP 6 ER) being pulled after giving up a grandslam to Hanley Ramirez in the 3rd inning and that was about all she wrote as our losing streak was pushed to a season high 5 games.
  • 9/2: PIT 2, LAD 9 - Lincecum (5 IP 4 ER) was cruising through 5 but couldn't do anything in 6th as he gave up 4 ER as Joc Pederson was just about unstoppable (3-4 2 RS RBI) and Kemp (2-4 HR 4 RBI) powered the way for the Dodgers as we lost our 6th straight.
  • Jeff Locke left the game in the 8th, he was diagnosed with a sore shoulder and will be out for 1 week.
  • 9/3: PIT 2, LAD 1 - Castro pitched well (6 IP 1 ER) to earn his 11th win as McCutchen hit his 24th HR of the year and we finally got back into the win column.
  • 9/5: PHI 2, PIT 5 - Liriano had great stuff through 5 innings (5.2 IP 1 ER 13 K's) to earn his 18th win of they year as Lowrie led the way offensively (2-3 HR 2 RBI) and Marinez earned his 13th save of the year with a perfect 9th.
  • 9/6: PHI 3, PIT 11 - Burnett was dominant (8.2 IP 3 ER until giving up 2 in the 9th. Wallace, McCutchen and Snider all homered in the rout.
  • 9/7: PHI 2, PIT 3 - Lincecum earned his 8th win of the season with a solid start (7.1 IP 2 ER). We broke through in the 4th with a 2 RBI single from Martin and a solo shot from Wallace. The bullpen was steady as ever asMarinez earned his 14th save with another perfect 9th inning.
The week started out rough as we carried our losing streak to 6 games before we were able to earn a win in the series finale against the Dodgers. From there things took a 180 degree turn as we swept the Phillies with the starting rotation really stepping it up. The win in the second game against the Phillies was our 82nd of the year and led to a pretty big celebration in the city of Pittsburgh following the game. Obviously we are nowhere near the end of our journey but completing our number one goal is certainly fulfilling. We are currently letting our minor league affiliates play with their full rosters as AAA Indianapolis has clinched a wild card spot, AA Altoona has clinched the Southern Division and Single A Jamestown is still vying for a wild card spot so it may be a couple of weeks before the rest of the 40 man roster makes it to the big leagues.

Who's Hot: Brett Wallace 5-17 2 HR 6 RBI 3 RS, Andrew McCutchen 9-25 1 HR 5 RBI 5 RS, Jhan Marinez 3 IP 3 SV 0 ER 0 H 0 BB 2 K.

Who's Not: Starling Marte 4-24 7 K's, A.J. Burnett 1-1 10.2 IP 9 ER 14 H 4 BB 11 K's,

Next Week: 3 vs. NYN, 3 vs. MIL

AL Player of the Week: Jacoby Ellsbury (BOS) 12-27 3 HR 9 RBI 6 RS
NL Player of the Week: Jay Bruce (CIN) 12-24 3 HR 11 RBI 6 RS
