Contraceptives are not a right, and neither is healthcare

And if Obamacare is so great, why can't those of us who don't want it opt out without penalty?

In a civilized country, health care is a right.

Whether health care is a right or not is, I think, matters far less than the practical, pragmatic question of how society should be organized, with what practices and principles that allow for the greatest well-being of that society and its members.

When one looks at the real-world data, the results are clear: those developed countries with some form of single-payer, universal health care system (1) spend less on health care as a share of GDP than does the United States; and (2) the medical outcomes in those countries is at least as good, if not better, than the U.S.

To reject perfectly workable solutions purely on the basis of ideology strikes me as foolishness.
