We bounced back to finish the month of May with a record of 16-12. However, the staff couldn't maintain its good showing as James McDonald finished the month 0-4 with a 6.96 ERA. Francisco Liriano continued to show signs of returning to his dominant form of years past (1-2, 2.55 ERA, 1.14 WHIP). Jason Grilli was removed from the closer' s role after converting only 1 save in 4 opportunities and posting an ERA of 4.50. His replacement Mark Melancon converted 5 of 6 save opportunities though he was hardly dominant himself as he posted an ERA of 5.40

The offense was the biggest story of the month as Neil Walker, Andrew McCutchen, Russell Martin and Starling Marte all posted batting averages above .300. McCutchen led the way with 18 RS as Pedro Alvarez and Garret Jones powered the offense with 6 and 7 HR respectively.
