In a closely contested series, the Rangers lost to the Brewers in the full 5 games. The Brewers powerful offense proved to be too much for the Rangers over the course of the series and the Rangers pitchers gave up a few too many walk, hits and homers to pull out the series. Facing dominant Minnesota starter Bert Blyleven and needing one win to clinch a playoff spot, the Rangers prevailed in a 6-1 win in their 161st game of the season. Rangers ace Randy Jones collected his 25th win of the season as Texas took advantage of three Twins errors and 4 unearned runs. Rangers 1B/3B Ron Cey went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's in the win.

Unfortunately, the Rangers got some sour news toward the end of the game when star outfielder Ben Oglivie severely strained an abdominal...

The Rangers completed their first amateur draft, picking 5th in each round, under executive manager Riley Payton and acquited the following players:

2) SP Randy Jones
3) RP Max Leon
4) SS Pepe Frias
5) OF Dick Sharon
6) LF Don Castle

The team is continuing to work on contract agreements for the rookies.

Also, the team agreed to to a trade with Oakland, sending reliever Steve Lawson to Oakland for OF Bobby Darwin....

Unfortunately, the All-Star break didn't help much. The Rangers are in the midst of a major teamwide slump. The bullpen has gone cold and the batting has been inconsistent, at best, leading to a 45-66 record.

"It's hard to believe we've fallen so far from how well we've started", said manager Riley Payton. "We've been humbled a bit. But I still believe in our guys and I ain't going anywhere. Time for the tough to get tougher."
