Offseason Banter

1905 was supposed to be a rebuilding year. The fact that I was still in the pennant race on the last game of the season was a huge win.

I'm surprised that Jake Beckley didn't retire. It's pretty obvious at this point that his only role on the team is as a left handed pinch hitter, though he may get a ceremonial start on opening day.

I traded away a few stalwarts in the offseason. Willie Keeler, Freddy Parent, and Tom Hughes were all sent packing for young prospects....

There were several players who made their first appearance on the Hall of Fame ballot in 1905.

Ed Beatin was a two-time 20-game winner who spent the bulk of his 12 year career in Brooklyn. He finished with 192 career wins.

Offseason Commentary

The Brooklyn roster did significantly turn around in the 1904 offseason, and I'm looking forward to 1905 to see it play out.

I was looking at a significant number of issues due to an aging roster, and I made a large number of moves just to increase the age ratio on the club. Gone are Dan Coogan, Hugh Hill, Jim St. Vrain, George Boone, Tad Quinn, Roger Bresnahan, Joe Hughes, Dave Brain, and Danny Hoffman.
