Position: 1st place (7 games ahead of Cincinnati)
Runs Scored: 652 (5th in NL)
Runs Allowed: 551 (2nd in NL)
Defense: .707 (1st in NL)
Power Ranking: 112.0 (3rd in ML)
Owner Mood: Ecstatic, Fan Interest: 77/100 (+1)
Last Week (3-3): 2-1 vs. NYM, 1-2 vs. MIL

  • 9/8: NYM 5, PIT 6 - Castro was able to get through 6 for the quality start but the bullpen slipped up as Marinez and Perez both blew saves. Marte hit well (2-4 2 RS 1 RBI) and McCutchen (4-5 2 RS 1 RBI) hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 10th to give us the win.
  • 9/9: NYM 5, PIT 3 - Wandy was roughed up (5.1 IP 3 ER 9 H 4 BB) and Tillman had a good start (7 IP 3 ER) as we just couldn't muster anything against the Mets Bullpen.
  • 9/10: NYM 2, PIT 5 - Liriano earned his 19th win of the year going 6.1 IP allowing 2 ER. Lowrie led the offense going 2-3 with 2 HR and 3 RBI Wallace also added a HR as Marinez nailed down his 15th save in the 9th.
  • 9/12: MIL 4, PIT 2 - Burnett didn't fair well in 4 IP giving up 4 ER. The bullpen held it down the rest of the way but it wouldn't matter as Gollardo held us to 1 ER despite allowing 12 hits and Jake Mcgee earned his 13th save.
  • 9/13: MIL 2, PIT 6 - Castro earned his 12th win of the year going 6 IP allowing 2 ER striking out 8. Marte (2-4) had an RBI 3B and Martin (3-5 2 RS) chipped in with an RBI single.
  • 9/14: MIL 6, PIT 1 - Lincecum gave up 4 ER through 5 IP taking the loss as Lohse dominated going 8 IP allowing only 1 ER.
The week didn't exactly play out how we wanted it to as the concerns with the starting rotation have flared up once again. We have confidence in Castro and Liriano going into a short playoff series but Burnett has had some problems recently and the confidence level is very low in both Lincecum and Wandy. AA Altoona has won their divisional series and AAA Indianapolis has evened their 5 game series. We will continue to hold off on promoting anyone to the 40 man until the MILB playoffs are over. Our magic number sits at 14 so we really won't need the help until we can at least cut that number in half.

Who's Hot: Andrew McCutchen 11-24 1 HR 2 RBI 4 RS, Jed Lowrie 9-22 2 HR 4 RBI 5 RS, Iwane Innoue 5.1 IP 0 ER 2 H 3 BB 7 K's, Chris Perez 5 IP 0 ER 1 H 0 BB 12 K's
Who's Not: Travis Snider 2-21 5 K's, Jhan Marinez 1 SV 3.1 IP 3 ER 4 H 0 BB 7 K's,

Next Week: 3 @ STL, 4 vs. CIN

News from around the league:

9/12: Desmond Jennings will be out 5-6 weeks with an intercostal strain.

AL Player of the Week: Levi Michael (MIN) 13-21 0 HR 3 RBI 2 RS
NL Player of the Week: Bryce Harper (WAS) 11-24 4 HR 6 RBI 5 RS
