The All-Star Game rosters have been announced and eight Brooklyn players have been selected to play for the National League. They are:
SP John McMullin
SP George Zettlein
C Doug Allison
1B Nearly Phelps
3B Cap Anson
LF Charlie Pabor
CF Art Allison
RF Joe Simmons

July 4, 1871

The first MLB All-Star Game has been won by the National League by a score of 18-9. Player of the game was Boston catcher Deacon White who had 3 hits, 1 walk, 3 RBI and 3 scored runs. Brooklyn third baseman Cap Anson hit 2-3 for 1 RBI and 2 runs. Pitcher George Zettlein was awarded the win and John McMullin a save.

August 1, 1871

Cleveland Forest Citys have extended their winning streak to 9 to move into first place in the American League standings. They are now 12-7 on the season. In second place with an equal record is Baltimore Canaries. Philadelphia Athletics are third at 8-11 and St. Louis Brown Stockings are fourth at 6-13.

In the National League Cincinnati Reds are first at 11-8 just one game ahead of Brooklyn Atlantics at 10-9. Boston Red Stockings are half a game further back at 10-10. The Chicago White Stockings are on a 9 game losing streak that has taken them from first to last.

Brooklyn Atlantics have continued the form shown in June to be on a five game winning streak and climb up to second in the standings. First baseman Nealy Phelps had a great month of July batting 10-21 for 7 RBI and 6 runs to win NL batter of the month. Second baseman John Hatfield also had a great month batting 8-17 for 6 RBI and 6 runs. Art Allison's hit streak is now a record unbeaten 17 games. Cap Anson is on a 13 game hitting streak.

July Awards

AL Batter of the Month: George Wright, SS, Cleveland Forest Citys
George Wright hit 12-24, .500/.520/.792, 8 RBI and scored 9 runs as Cleveland continued their unbeated streak to move into first place in the AL.

AL Pitcher of the Month: Al Pratt, Cleveland Forest Citys
In July Al Pratt pitched 5 complete games for 5 wins at a 2.00 ERA to lead Cleveland to the top of the AL.

NL Batter of the Month: Nealy Phelps, 1B, Brooklyn Atlantics
10-21, .476/.500/.619, 7 RBI, 6 runs

NL Pitcher of the Month: John McMullin, Brooklyn Atlantics
John McMullin pitched 4 complete games for 4 wins at a 2.50 ERA to take Brooklyn up to second place just one game behind NL leaders Cincinnati.
