You would have never imagined that Washington's SP Julio Esquivel was having his worst year statistically by the way he dismantled a struggling Blue Claw's offense. Julio, last years 20 game winner pitched a great game last night, making it look easy and going the distance.

The Blue Claws only really showed any signs of life in 2 innings, however as soon they seemingly built some momentum, Julio would shut them down.
Baltimore did not have an extra base hit all night, that kind of tell the story in a nut shell.

Really, the only bright side on the night was the defense. In fact Baltimore did execute 3 double plays. McBean had 2 spectacular double plays and even though he had an error on the night he played a good game in the field.

Baltimore will try and avert getting swept in the rubber game tomorrow and with division leading Philadelphia next on the slate a win would go a long way to build a little confidents.

Baltimore (38-39) is now back under .500 and 4 games off the division leader Philadelphia.
Washington going for the sweep tomorrow has improved to 41-36.

League News and Notes:

Trade News:

Charlotte Cougars Send :

SP Leonard Hampton 21 year old , drafted in 2003 , 10 round pick of Charlotte. Currently pitching in AA. Scouts predict a solid number 3 Starter.

2B Jonathan Pierce 24 year old , drafted in 2000 , Round 6 by Vancouver. He's been trade already 5 times in his short career. Scouts are not too sure he's going to play in the bigs. He's a great defender that can also play a very good 2b. He's hard working and that maybe the only thing that gives clubs hope. Currently, Jon is playing in AA, but struggling batting .180.

Georgia Rattlesnakes Send :

MR Roy Moore 34 year old ( Career Numbers - 36-32 , 14 Saves , era 4.15) and Cash Consideration.

Trade Reaction:

Georgia is 8 games back and in last place so this trade makes good sense. They pickup a SP with potential and a long shot prospect in Jon Pierce.

For Charlotte they get a good MR vetern that's pitching pretty well this season and at 3 games back in a crowded Southeastern division this trade should help them.
