Our problems just seem to keep getting worse as we finished the week 1-5 putting our spring record at 3-7. Again I'm not worried about spring wins and losses but our young pitchers who are vying for a spot in the back end of the rotation have not shown much promise.
Tony Watson is in jeopardy of being cut as he's posted a 22.85 ERA as he's given up 11 ER in the 4.1 innings he pitched. He has also given up 12 hits while walking 7 batters. We'll give Tony another week but it looks like he could be headed to the AAA camp.

3/16/14: The Houston Astros have called a press conference for later this afternoon to announce the signing of starting pitcher Paul Maholm to a 3 year, $12.68 mil. deal. The 31 year old Maholm spent 2013 with the Braves starting 23 games with a record of 8-10 and an ERA of 3.79. Pitching in 154.1 innings he only walked 36 batters. Maholm will provide a veteran presence to a young Astros rotation and figures to get the start on opening day.
3/16/14: Fans in Chicago ushered in Manny Parra today as their new reliever. The 31 year old came to terms with the White Sox and will be hauling in $1.72 Mil. over their next year. Pitching 55.2 innings for the Reds in 2013 Parra posted a 2.26 ERA with 64 K's and only 17 BB's.
3/19/14: Cubs officials presented Jorge De La Rosa to members of the local print media today as their new starting pitcher. The deal, worth $3.96 mil., guarantees the 32 year old a home in Chicago for 1 year. De La Rosa started 33 games for Colorado in 2013 pitching 189.1 innings with a record of 13-11 and a 4.42 ERA. De La Rosa will pitch out of the #2 spot in the Chicago rotation.
