May 5, 1950 (Friday) - Philadelphia, PA
W/L record 8-11 (.421), 7th place, 3.5 GB
The St. Louis Browns sealed the first game of a two-game set last night at Shibe Park by a score of 6-3.
The Browns scored five runs in the sixith inning, highlighted by Billy Johnson's three-run home run. A combination of Philadelphia errors, wild pitches and free passes helped set the stage for the Browns' big inning.
Browns 3B Billy Johnson
Losing pitcher Joe Coleman (1-4) struggles with his control so far this season, having given up 24 free passes in 40 innings. "I know I've been inconsistent in my starts so far. I've been working on spotting my slider in my off days, and once I get that pitch under control, the wins will come my way," he said.
The A's easily outhit the Browns 13 to 7, however stranded base runners continues to be a bane for the Philadelphia offense, as they beached 13.
