1940s replay, morphs into a Ted Williams years replay

I decided on a replay of the 1940s, because I was interested in the war years. In 1943 there were less than a 1000 homers for the first time in two decades. So I have TWO main replay ideas. First, an historical line up replay.
Then, as I played my first game of 1940, Boston at Washington, I noticed (was reminded) that Williams was a rookie in 1939, so why not start over in 1939. Then the idea came, why not do as historic a replay as possible without players, including Williams, missing time due to the war? Would Ted get 700 homers? Well, he'll have to hit against pitchers who missed time in real life.
So I will guess I will start my historic lineups replay over at 1939, and when I get to 1943 to stay as historic as possible, with historic transactions on, and see if historic lineups (with subs) can be used, or just use the most frequent lineups used by teams during those years (thank goodness they can be found on BR).
